Should Students Pick Their Own Schedule

You walk into your first class on the first day of school, you are one of the first ones there. You stare eagerly at the door as other students start to file into the classroom, your hopes are high that one of your friends might come through that door. Then a part of you dies inside. None of your friends came into the classroom. Then and there you vow to never enjoy this class for as long as you have it. A situation like this could have easily been avoided if students were allowed to pick their own schedule. Most students in the school want to be able to pick their own schedule, and having friends in the classroom can release the tension in classes with no friends. One reason on why we should allow kids to pick their own schedule is, most students want to be able to pick their own schedule. In a survey of the students in Prairie Knolls Middle School, 97% of students wanted to be able to pick their own schedule. I know the student body, I am even part of it. I know that one of the most complained about problems in the school is, “ I don’t have any classes with my friends!” I must hear this about 20 times a day. That could all be avoided if you let us pick …show more content…
The problem with that argument is that the teachers in this school are nice, but they keep very good order in the classroom. I know from personal experience that they will not hesitate to give out consequences or take further action if necessary. Therefore this problem may be real in some other schools, but in our school it is non-existent.
Kids should be able to pick their own schedule because they want to and it can release tension in classes where they have to friends. You have said it multiple times to us as the student body, you want us to enjoy our experiences here as much as possible. Are you really helping that happen by putting us in classes where we have no
