The purpose and effectiveness of differentiated instruction lies in its ability to mix things up to keep the students engaged. One day could be student driven learning while the next day is more of a lecture structure. The benefit of having more student driven class activities is the collaboration effect on the students. Collaboration gives the students a chance to use the knowledge being learned in class together (Borstler 4). With the advancements in technology, adolescents today are spending more time communicating through text messages rather than face-to-face interaction. Technology has impacted our ability to effectively communicate with one another. In the classroom, some students do not communicate with one another everyday because they do not know each other or just simply communicate through social media. According to Boy, “when people do not know each other in real life, interactions are mostly cognitive and cannot address embodied interaction that face to face interaction provides” (Boy). By bringing collaboration into the classroom, the teacher is helping students with their communication skills through more meaningful face to face
