Should Students Have to Take Math Classes Up To Algebra II In High School?
Taking higher level math classes in high school has been a controversial topic for quite a few years now. Should students really be required to take such difficult math courses, even when what they want to do after high school doesn't require classes such as calculus? Throughout a students high school career - they are put under large amounts of stress between homework for 6+ classes, spending time with family, working after school, and extracurricular activities (clubs, sports, etc.). Managing all of these things for students fourteen to eighteen years old can be a challenge. So do students really need to be required to take four years of college level math in high school? Math as a general term is very essential to everyday life. Being able to pay bills, do taxes, manage money intelligently, make measurements and other various things that people all over the world have to do everyday to just get by. Even for students that get to their junior year and still want nothing to do with college. They should still try to challenge themselves just incase they do change their minds, like all students will. Many students struggle with math, and many dislike it so much to the point where they will cease to try and understand it. I believe students need a challenge, but I don't believe in pushing kids to their breaking point. Some students will be amazing at one subject and be completely inept in another. This does not mean a student isn't smart, it just means the student has different skills compare to
