Last semester I paid around five hundred dollars for five books from our on-campus bookstore. This number may seem large; however, I know of people that paid even more than I did. Full-time students are already paying a tremendous amount of money to attend college so why should they have to spend so much money on buying books that are a necessity for classes? What I am getting at is that books from our bookstore are overpriced. In the Rebel Yell article by Ian Whitaker, “In the face of high prices, students skipping out on textbooks”, he expresses how students are willing to risk their grades and not buy textbooks because of their high prices.…

I honestly don’t believe that student-athletes should get paid to play sports. There seems to be a misunderstanding about how profitable these athletic programs really are and that the schools are making tons of money off of these athletes. In reality, only a small portion of these school programs are lucrative while most function at a higher cost to the institution itself. The question of pay mainly rests of the sports of basketball and football because of their high-profile and revenue athletics departments. The argument is that student athletes should receive compensation because these institutions are banking millions of dollars off of their student’s performances.…

School is a necessary system worldwide to invest in a society 's future. The primary argument as to why educational institutions should be free in the U.S. is not to give everyone the equal opportunity to education as stated by Lawrence (a professor of History emeritus at SUNY Albany) although it is one of the reasons, the primary reason is to increase the number of educated workers to hopefully improve our economy. It is stated that an “educated work force has become an essential component of economic growth and competitiveness (Student Aid Alliance). However, college tuition filters out those who are not willing to pay for their education and also funds universities so that they are able to function and upgrade their facilities.
