Modern education has many flaws and advantages as shown through David Basinger’s journal article, “Fighting Grade Inflation” Basinger’s article describes how grade inflation disturbs college teachers. His debate results in the conclusion that college teachers are troubled by the rising grades because it appears that even though there is a significant grade increase, the students are not acquiring any knowledge. As a result, the educators are anxious that their students grades have inflated and the students are awarded more points than they deserved, as shown through this quote: “The significant increase in grade averages over the past generation apparently fails to represent any real increase in learning, we are left to assume that higher grades…

Many people have recently raised controversy on the subject of whether college athletes should be paid or not. The student athletes feel they should be paid for their performance on the field due to the fact that they spend most of their free time on the field or court practicing the sport they love and they cannot afford to manage school, sports, and a healthy sleep life style on top of working to be able to afford things. College athletes should not be paid for their performance on the field. The Government needs to understand that student is going to school to live a better life and improve the future of this country’s economy. Putting students in a position where they are broke and incapable of purchasing living necessities will lead to a downfall in the future. I’m not saying the government should just throw money at people because that will just cause more problems but instead charge lower interest rates. Instead of charging people 8.25% interest and make profits like corporate banks, charge a standard 1% interest rate which will still let the government money while keeping the people happy. Doing this will help the economy, because when people have more money they are able to spend more.…

They believe allowing athletes to collect a paycheck for playing would destroy the idea of the “student-athlete” and create several additional problems. Paying players would mean schools were essentially operating professional teams under the banner of an institution of higher learning says Amy Perko. Richard Southall says the demands placed on players at the top levels of college sports, particularly football and basketball; mean “they’ve been employees for a long time”. “Colleges are already compensating their student athletes with tuition, room, board, coaching, nutritional support and physical trainers that can exceed hundred thousand dollars per year in value. Student athletes are already paid, and the current system is pretty close to as fair as we are going to get,” wrote Jeffrey Dorfman (Quoted in Karaim 4).…

Students might worry about their other ungraded assignments that they’ve already completed and doubt that they did a good job.…
