Paying student-athletes could distract them from their duties as a student; they have to be not only motivated to play, but also to study what they truly want. For example, student-athletes can lose passion about playing or studying because they could think that the have made it to their highest level by being accepted at a good college and also getting paid. Furthermore, these athletes might think that as they are being paid to play in the college’s team they could not take the risk of an injury if a game is not an important one like a national championship. Also, they might lose interested on studying because they could consider that earning a good amount of money is enough for what they had expected. Therefore, paying student-athletes leads to negative effects to their career and responsibilities as a student by distracting them with a salary as a…

Is paying college athletes worth it? “I honestly think college athletes should be paid, because they put hard work and dedication into everything they do on the field.” Every college student athlete has a lot of pressure upon them during school, then showing up for practice giving coaches 100% each day it’s a rush and adrenaline pump. If college students were getting paid during on and off season like the NFL I think college would have more graduates, then dropouts and even colleges that loose would come on top of winning if they paid the students to play that would be a great opportunity.…

Introducing performance pay for teachers in the US could lead to several consequences affecting not only the teachers themselves but also the students and the American society as a whole. Teaching itself is a very important profession that should be taken seriously and if performance pay is going to improve the quality of education for generations to come, then it is definitely worth trying. After all, why should a lazy teacher without any incentive to incorporate modern and more engaging ways of teaching be paid the same as a hardworking, dedicated and effective teacher? The education children receive affects them for the rest of their lives. Having a good education is a necessary tool for the children to think for themselves, get a more developed understanding of the world, get the skills and knowledge necessary for their survival and a better future with more opportunities.…

According to the Washington Post, data has proven that there is a direct correlation between high school grade point average and the average annual adulthood earnings. According to Michael T. French, he director of the health economics research groups at the University of Miami, said “A one-unit increase in your GPA has a very sizable impact on your education and earnings.” It is for that reason that we must affirm today’s resolution to mandate a national minimum grade point average. The first point I would like to bring up today is that a national minimum grade point average would encourage students to lean more and earn a better living later in life. For every one point increase in high school grade point average earnings in adulthood increase twelve percent for men and fourteen percent for women.…

(Dufour and Marzano, pg. 12). For a positive school reform to take place, it is perhaps a better idea to leave the penalties and sanctions out of the reform. Better yet, a school reform plan should be placed in the hands of educators (and certain politicians) who are not simply creating a reform based on incentives. Also, it is certainly beneficial for each individual school leadership team to consider what is best for their particular school, and student success, and do these things because they matter. To add to his idea of incentives, Daniel Pink discusses the idea of intrinsic motivation as he ends his…
