From year to year, educators are evaluated by grade level chairs and administration based on teaching skills and performance in the classroom. Depending the school, a recording of a single class period is used to evaluate a teacher. But what happens after the camera stops recording, and who is there to witness what happens. The answer is: the students. Despite feelings towards a teacher, based on emotion, students truly understand whether or not a teacher is performing at the level they should. If the teacher knows he or she is being evaluated constantly, he or she will attempt to satisfy the student each lesson. Most of the time, teachers work hard to teach their students, but he or she does not know whether their lesson is comfortable and entertaining for the students. For example, when I was in high school, most teachers would never teach a lesson the exact same each year. At the end of each lesson, teachers would ask for our feedback on the lesson and changed it to make it more comfortable for the class. Making teachers more responsible and helping them improve their performance as an educator. The effects of a bad teacher can be life-long. Teachers should be held accountable for the job they do. Reward the good ones and train the ones that needs improvement. While at the same time giving students a voice in the school and motivating the students desire to be great. A school could simply start with a monthly evaluation and eventually make them more often. A great bond between students and teachers is pertinent to the success of a school.
