Being a volunteer is a superb achievement for any individual. It has ways of helping many people. People have been volunteering for decades. I believe that students should be required by the school to be a volunteer to receive their high school diploma. I agree because many of excellent colleges require community service hours and being a volunteer for scholarships. In his essay he established his belief in what the chief issues that need to be addressed in order to improve American high schools.…

In the article “volunteering to graduate” by Miriam Dodge and Pro/Con: should students service learning hour be mandatory for high school graduation by Claire Koenig and Simrin Gupta it talks about if they should have mandatory service hours to graduate high school. I do not believe that all United Sates citizens should be required to to preform at least one year of community service by the time they are thirty years of age. Forcing someone to help when they aren't willing can do more damage than good. If the person does not want to help they shoulfnt be forced to do so. Volunterring comes from the heart of the person, if their heart is not it, it will not be benificial to the people receiving the help. Most people tend to volunteer at churches, food banks, schools and even in the fire department.…

In high school, students get piled with work and often feel overwhelmed. A huge majority of students have after school activities, a part-time job or hang out with their friends after school. Many students often become stressed out, while worrying about passing their classes in order to get into a good college and have a bright future. Schools should not allow students to graduate after a three-year term, because it will be more stressful, and there will be less time to prepare for college and their life after college. During high school, many students feel overwhelmed, or stressed as if they are being put under pressure due to all the work that they have to finish in a short period of time.…

On December 6,1865,President Lincoln abated slavery stating that all slaves would be freed and no longer be forced to work for no reward. In our own country today, however, many students across the nation are being forced to do just that, work for no reward. In the article “Required Volunteerism;School Program Tested” by Michael Winerip, It shows that in just two schools alone,175 students are at risk of not graduating because they did not give in to the volunteer program. Didn’t we learn from our mistakes; just because we changed the name, doesn’t mean we changed the game! Volunteering is to go out of your way to help others, but this is just doing what’s required, and therefore, the practice of making kids volunteer for a grade should be stopped.…

Since college students are well suited for community service, by doing community services, they can "create...a lifelong commitment to volunteering. " They can also start "addressing the needs of those around them" because by doing that, they can help their community become better than it was before. Although performing community service can be helpful towards the individual themself and to those who live in the community, young people shouldn't be required to perform public services. Young people should not be forced to complete something that they do not want to do. Nobody wants to recieve "community service from someone who is forced to serve" because it does not give a good feeling to what they are doing.…

In my nine years of school experience there have been many times when I was forced to work with people I most certainly did not want to work with. I understand learning to work with people you don’t like is suppose to help when you get older like for jobs. What I do not understand is why we have to suffer for it. I recall many times when I was forced to work with people who basically did not do their work, ever.…

Should incentives be awarded for donating or serving a selfless act? Some teachers award incentives to students to encourage participation. However, some parents believe that this would send a morally wrong message to students. Parents believe that if it was not for the award that was being offered, the students would not participate. Even though incentives could encourage more participation in donation events, students should not be given incentives for serving a selfless act because it encourages students to only participate in donation services when there are rewards involved, it does not give students the right mindset, and does not give students the experience of doing something selflessly.…

As members of our high school’s Key Club, a community service international group, we pride ourselves in community service and our ability to enjoy the service projects we commit ourselves to. The benefits we reap from taking a part in community service goes beyond the mere hours for a sheet; we gain the morale and communication skills that the “real world” expects us to live up to. However, making community service a graduation requirement would make students dread the act, viewing service more as a chore rather than a self-enriching experience. Community service can enrich our experiences as teenagers and allow the opportunity to gain high morale and communication. For example, the Community Service Mission Statement of Dalton High School…
