There is a time and place for both homogenous and heterogeneous grouping. Whole class instruction
Throughout the curriculum, students work in groups to facilitate learning and understanding of material presented. Often after reading, students are placed…
Students should not be segregated on the basis of their educational level. In its place, students of different educational levels should be placed together in one classroom so that students who do have a hard time in school can get the assistance they need to succeed in the American…
Caroline Schafer EDU 392- Research Paper October 7, 2015 The student will employ methods for pre-reading schema activation, guided silent reading, and post-reading schema building. MoSPE 1 I am able to employ methods for pre-reading schema activation, guided silent reading, and post reading schema building because of the activities I learned to perform and the ideas I read about that can help me in the future.…
This type of grouping helped to work with the different learning abilities of the…
As a senior at Kendall College, I was able to make a variety of lesson plans and implement them. One thing I struggled a lot was creating lesson plans to include differentiate instruction in order to reach the variety of learners. Differentiated Instruction is being implemented in classrooms in order provide instruction for every student and hopefully see better outcomes of learning, growth and development. Differentiate instruction takes place when the children are learning the same concept in a variety of forms meeting the individual needs of each student. In today 's classrooms the classes are looking more diverse: culturally and linguistically, as well as having different types of learners (auditory, visual and kinetic).…
If I were a high school teacher planning a group work assignment, I would assign random grouping to maximize student achievement. Although students that compose the groups are randomly selected, I will allow some tweaking to ensure that my fast learners are distributed in all groups. This will ensure that slow learners are equally helped when needed. My idea can be best described as heterogeneous grouping, not homogenous, grouping if my purpose is to maximize student achievement, both academically and socially. If my goals are acceleration and extensive intervention, then I would use homogenous grouping by ability.…
Whenever the need arises, I shuffle the groups as well. This strategy, to group students together, helps to the point where students cooperate and trade thoughts with each other. This way they can grasp and retain the material better by discussion rather than simply memorizing the subject at home alone. I have utilized this technique while discussing real life…
I believe students should not be forced to work with others. In my nine years of school experience there have been many times when I was forced to work with people I most certainly did not want to work with. I understand learning to work with people you don’t like is suppose to help when you get older like for jobs. What I do not understand is why we have to suffer for it. I recall many times when I was forced to work with people who basically did not do their work, ever.…
Inclusion is a tricky subject. It is easy to give a student to much help or not even notice what the best accommodations should be per students. Even the decision to place students in isolated classes or included into regular population. However, extracurricular activities are a great place for all student to learn from each other.…
Academic institutions in the past few years have been really creating a diverse environment for their students. More institutions are accepting students that are from other countries and who wouldn’t normally fit the criteria for that school. With the school also showing that it is more diverse than others more students will be attracted to it because they want to submerge themselves in diversity for learning purposes. When a student is first looking at a college they are looking at what that certain college has to offer such as programs and clubs. The more a student likes the school the more they look at what type of atmosphere the school has and what the students are like.…
Until recently, there was no common non-derogatory term for non-heterosexuality. However, after many changes with the acronym, the term LGBTQ was coined in the late 1990s. Since the beginning of LGBTQ studies, many educators have combined each represented group to teach gay studies in a more collective way. Still, we have the notion that many activists and LGBT members believe that the term does not accurately represent all that it refers to. Many educators teach lesbian and gay studies together, while other educators do not.…
Studies have proven that kids same sex classes get better grades, but grades aren't the only thing that matters. Having boys and girls together helps kids develop as a person, because they're exposed to more, therefore we should not have girls and boys separated into different classes in school. First off, there are more than just two genders. Where are you planning on putting the kids that don't fit into those two, very small, society conforming, boxes? What about non-binary or gender-fluid kids, to name just two of the other possibilities.…
ADDRESSING DIVERSITY OF LEARNING IN CLASSROOM In today’s school, many different elements of diversity present themselves. These include race, learning styles, gender, ethnicity, religious beliefs. e.t.c In order to ensure that each student in the classroom is gaining the maximum benefit, teachers have to understand and treat each student as a unique individual.…
Classroom environment has a crucial role in children’s learning and development for two reasons. At the early stage, appropriate environmental stimulation is essential for children 's brain growth. The amount of stimulation children receives directly affects children’s cognitive, social, and emotional skills. (Berk, 2014, p.94). The other reason that the classroom environment is vital because children spend a considerable amount of time in school.…
As a social studies teacher I feel I have a responsibility to challenge the status quo, create more equity, and inclusivity in the classroom and bring awareness to issues of social justice. I look forward to expanding and deepening my understanding of issues such as, poverty, racism, abuse, gender inequality, and LGBTQ concerns. Some of which I have and awareness of but not necessarily a deep understanding. For this reason I found that the quote from Einid Lee “those with more privilege have much to learn from listening to those with less” resonated with me, increasing my desire to learn from people who have lived such experiences. I was having a conversation with a Second year about her practicum placement and she mentioned some of the challenges…
