Student-athletes of this generation feel as if they are entitled to earning a paycheck for playing a college sport. What they don’t realize is that they should be playing for the love of the game, not the money it could potentially provide. As a student athlete myself, I have heard from my coaches that around 10% of kids actually get the chance to play in college. The percentage of those playing professionally after their collegiate careers is not even half of that. The probability of making it to the big leagues is nearly impossible, unless you are a 6’9 basketball player with a 30” vertical.

Professional athletes are the best in their respective sport. They are selected based on their amazing talents to typically represent their country. For example, the Olympics is the biggest sporting event in the world. It consists of athletes from all over the world to compete over a two-week period. These athletes were once student-athletes and are a part of that small percent that make it past college. They have worked hard to be where they are and their career is the sport they play. “Sleep, Eat, Play, Repeat” is their motto and every day
