With all of these one and done basketball players the question pops up whether student athletes should get paid. There are a lot of reasons for this because these colleges are selling the athletes talents to get people to spend there money for their tickets. They have the athletes sign game used items and the colleges turn that around and make a tremendous amount of money of of the item. On the other hand they do get free education, housing, and food.
When you are a college athlete you spend a lot of time in your classes but you will spend most of your extra time playing, studying, and practicing the sport you play. For a division one football player you will dedicate 43.3 hours to the sport of football(Edelman). These players spend more time on football than a typical american

The sad part is that only seven percent of every kid that plays a sport in high school goes on to play in college. This proves that it is a privilege to play in college(Anderson). These athletes are one of a kind because it is not everyday you find a kid that has the athletic ability the have. They should feel the gratitude, pride, and competition of the game. They can go around and feel like they are the big man of the campus because they won a championship because of him(Anderson). Lastly they play for the name on the jersey. This is who they represent and are known for. In the end there are still young adults, not professionals.
For most people college is where you go to get and education, not to play a professional sport. This is why we have college sports so they can have something to fall back if they do not make it big time. These student athletes are still in the learning stages just like someone majoring in accounting would be, learning how everything works(Anderson). They are just like the average college student, financially
