Kicked off? 62% of people say that education is more important than sports and athletes who have good grades are allowed on the team, but if they don’t have the grades that they need, then they should get kicked off the team until their grades rises to where it should be at. Student athletes should not be able to be on the team with bad grades cause that person won’t be a successful person in life and if your a Division 1 college and someone on your team is very good at the sport, but doesn’t have that good of grades that they need then you wouldn’t want someone not successful coming from your college.

The topic has been discussed on numerous occasions on whether or not college athletes should be paid for playing sports for major universities. A lot of people feel that they should get paid for the hard work they do, while others such as myself say that they should not be paid. College students should not get paid due to the fact that they are already getting paid on scholarships, it hurts the school, and it doesn’t further their education. The first reason I feel that college athletes shouldn’t be paid is due to the fact that a lot of them are already having their education paid for due to scholarships. Now not every single college athlete gets a full scholarship but a lot of them do.…

In the film, Sports for Sale, players on the SMU (Southern Methodist University) football team shared that some nights, they would go to bed starving because they did not have extra money to go out and buy something to eat. The NCAA states that taking money out of consideration makes it easier for the athletes to focus on their academics. Even though the NCAA says that they are just student athletes, the NCAA schedules games and tournament games requiring athletes to miss multiple days at a time out of the classroom (Zimbalist). The NCAA is using and treating athletes as modern slaves that do not have the right to speak out on issues or to protest. Not only is the NCAA not living up to paying the athletes, they are not making sure that the athletes get the degree that they are so called, “promised.”…

Being a student athlete is a wonderful thing in high school, despite a lot of people only acknowledge the athlete part and not the student part. I believe that academics come first and if a high school student wants to be an athlete, then getting good grades should be a requirement. It should be mandatory for teachers and coaches to check the grades of student athletes weekly to determine whether students are performing academically well or not. The students that aren’t doing well should be dismissed from any further games and practices until their grades improve. It is important that student athletes maintain good grades because the work that they put into their school performance carries with them through life, putting too much of an emphasis…
