Imagine going to football practice and getting your team uniforms. All stained with green, and holes in the jersey, and the worn out pads. This could all have been solved if your school asked kids to pay a small fee for every extracurricular activity you participate in. Some people say paying for sports in unacceptable, while the majority of others think paying for sports is good. Kids should pay to play sports because, they use the money to upgrade the equipment for athletes, and the fees that can help cover academic expenses. If kids didn't pay to play, how would they pay for expensive academic tools, or other courses. According to West Shore School District it says, “Last year the fee went up to $25 per student, per activity, and was also expanded to include fees for music, orchestra, band, and even art, chemistry, and other academic courses requiring expensive supplies.” What this means is paying for these courses in tools alone cost a lot of money, so if kids were charged a fee, it would help pay for all of it. Some people believe that paying for sports is a bad idea because, parents whose children aren't great athletes feel like the fee is a waste of money. But what they don't realize is that this money will help them improve on and off the court. When the pros and cons are weighed, the conclusion is obvious, when you have no way to cover the expenses of equipment for sports, and school in the budget, This is why kids should pay to play sports. Come on kids, don't settle for old equipment when you can pay to play and get brand new tools, and gear for both sports and

To Pay or Not to Pay “During the 2013-2014 school year, the University of South Carolina spent $31,598 on each member of the men’s tennis team”, (Haire). Colleges spend a lot of their funds on their athletic teams, such as keeping the fields and courts well-kept, getting the athletes jerseys, and accessories such as cleats, helmets, and pads to play with. For football players, everything is paid in full for them and still college athletes want to get paid. That would be unfair to the students that are there not for athletics because they work just as hard as the athletes, they just do not play a sport. Therefore, colleges should not pay their athletes because it is inequitable and unsportsmanlike.…

Student athletes, are just that: students, not employees, and they should be treated as such while in college. As said best by Dr. John Acquaviva, a renowned sports journalist, “colleges and universities provide an invaluable and vital service to our communities: education” (3). Student athletes are attending college firstly to receive an education that is essentially priceless. Paying student athletes would only deviate their focus from where it needs to be: getting an education that prepares them with skills necessary for the future. Additionally, “less than 2 percent of college athletes go on to compete at the professional level” (Williams), and for the other 98% of student athletes that do not continue their athletic career past college, the degree they earn in college is vitally important; therefore, keeping the athletes focus on academics…

Private vs. Public Private schools have an extremely unfair advantage against public schools in high school sports. There are many reasons why this is unfair; one being that private schools can recruit. They also have a larger pool to pick from and can hand pick their team, while public schools are limited to the people willing to try out, and kids that go to a private school can focus on one sport because of the amount of talent recruited for other sports. While kids in a public school have to play other sports just to have enough players for that sport.…
