Lance Armstrong was always one of the top cyclists and has won seven Tour De Frances. But, a couple of years ago, he was stripped of his yellow jerseys and was ultimately banned from cycling. All of this happened because when Armstrong was cycling, he was taking steroids to get ahead of the rest of the competition. When it comes to the issue of using steroids in sports, there are several disagreements. While some believe that steroids should be allowed in sports, others maintain that they should only be allowed in certain circumstances. Despite objections, steroids should not be allowed in sports under any circumstances. Athletes should be allowed to take steroids in sports in order to make the game more exciting and they do not increase the health risks that are already involved in sports. One reason steroids should be allowed in sports is because “not only would the playing field suddenly be even for all players, it would be at a higher level. A huge part of watching sports is witnessing the very peak of human athletic ability...” (Smith). Steroids are made up of a chemical that replicates testosterone which increases muscle strength (“Performance-enhancing drugs”). With the legalization of steroids, athletes will be able to get even stronger than they are currently allowing them to increase their level of play.
