Should Smoking Regulations Be Allowed

Improved Essays
Regulations can become controversial when a somebody disagrees with the new rule put in place. This can particularly be difficult when talking about smoking regulations. Many argue that individuals should be able to have the freedom to do as they please because tobacco use regulations can hinder their individual rights. It is true that each individual should have the freedom to do what he or she want, but it is hard to when bystanders are getting the harmful effects that smoking can cause. The policies are not stopping anyone from quitting their smoking habit, but designed for them to smoke in a designated area so the harmful chemicals from secondhand smoke will not affect bystanders. These rules are in place to help the health of the nonsmokers

I think that smoking should be banned in the workplace, inside and out because of many reasons such as, smoking and second hand smoke is extremely unhealthy for men, women and especially children. Every employer is obliged to protect the health of staff, customers, residents and visitors to their premises. In the case of exempted buildings only, this means that employers can, if they wish, designate certain areas of their premises as 'smoking' or 'non-smoking' in order to minimize risk.…

Many people disagree with the above statement, but personally I agree that smoking should be banned in and around workplaces, why you may ask? Its unhealthy, unprofessional and smoking causes many health problems. My first reason to back this issue up is since 1964 approximately 2,500,000 non smokers have died from health problems caused by exposure to second hand smoke, so that means other employees who are non-smokers have to suffer. There are also many other health problems caused by second hand smoke such as; heart disease, lung cancer and strokes.…

By having these laws in place will make it clear that the particular institution does not support or encourage tobacco products. This will help diminish the social acceptability for social smoking. These regulations will also make it more difficult for smokers to light up a cigarette because they will not be able to freely smoke like they have in the past. Furthermore this will help decrease the number of cigarettes smoked per day while reducing emissions of secondhand smoke. These laws not only help to protect the nonsmoking bystanders by decreasing their chances of inhaling toxic chemicals from cigarettes but also help encourage the smokers to make an attempt to quit.…

The three branches of government all have their own view and method of going about this law. The legislative branch has had these laws in effect ever since 1998 and the law shall be followed for there are penalties to these crimes no matter how little. Not only have they put a ban on cigarettes, but mechanical cigarettes, chewing Tabaco, snuff, and vapors.…

As stated in Lambert 's’ article, “ban advocates argue that non-smoking patrons and employees of establishments that allow smoking are forced to bear costs over which they have no control,”(p. 1) ie. smoke damage and second-hand smoke. He furthers his argument by stating “that the building owner, who is in a position to control the amount of smoking (if any) that is permitted in the building, has an incentive to permit the “right” amount of smoking... [which] may be zero...as much as patrons desire...or something in-between” (p. 2). On this issue, I do fully agree with Lambert’s views.…
