So, what i mean by that is that student will post things on their social media and think nobody can do anything about it. Students will post things on social media about another person behind their back and before they know it they are getting bullied or being laughed at. Students or teachers can be victims of cyberbullying. In 2011 a teacher was being cyber bullied when he found out that an old student of his posted a photo of him containing strong language. It was a twelfth grader at musselman High-school. The 12th grader was caught having a hate website and was in violation of the schools districts policy against harassment, bullying, and intimidation. The student punishment was a ten day school suspension. The student who made the hate website felt that the school administrators were violating her free speech rights under the first amendment by punishing her for something that occurred outside of school. The student also thought that she would get away with it because it was outside of school. The student tried to take social media to their advantage because they thought they would not be punished for it. The first amendment states that citizens should be able to express and be exposed to wide range of opinions. Some countries have a law that if they opinion is a direct threat to someone they can lose their freedom. Limiting a students speech if they have not posted a threat violates the First amendment, which makes it unconstitutional. If the student is making a threat to someone online about another student than i think the schools administrators should have to do something with that because they are students and school administrators care for their students life

The First Amendment protects citizen’s rights to free speech. The First Amendment is “applied to the states through the Fourteenth Amendment, restricts governmental interference with citizens’ free expression rights” (McCarthy, Cambron-McCabe, & Eckes, 2014, p. 93). However, students’ right to free speech in the educational setting can be limited if “the expression is likely to disrupt the educational process or collide with the rights of others” (McCarthy et al., 2014, p. 98). The Supreme Court applies the First Amendment in many cases regarding free speech. Through these various cases, the Supreme Court has established four legal principles to guide student expression rights in public educational facilities (McCarthy et al., 2014, p. 95).…

This quote is very meaningful, and Martin Luther King Jr, the one who spoke is a very influential man. This quote conveys a strong message with just a few words: if we are not passionate about the things that matter then we might as well not do anything at all. The first amendment protects the freedom of speech, and while this is often overlooked, I believe this is one of the greatest offerings of America; through the freedom of speech, we can voice our opinions publicly, and we can express ourselves without consequence. Before this class, I never heard of this Supreme Court case, but I am pleased with the results and enjoy the fruit of their decision as mentioned, “Students don't shed their constitutional rights at the school house gates”…
