Argumentative Essay: Should The School Year Be Extended?

Currently, the school year in Ohio is set at 182 days long which excludes holidays. Should the school year be longer or should it be shortened? Countless people think that the school year should be lengthened while others oppose. Various children and teens would agree that they would dread having to go to school longer. However, there are some logical reasons that can give an explanation on why students should go to school less. This essay will explain that summer allows teens to save up for college, teachers and students are already exasperated, it costs more, and the farming season would hinder many children. The first reason why the school year should not be longer is because summer break allows teens time to earn money for college. Being continually stressed is not healthy. School tends to strain parents, teachers, and students. Summer break also helps children get more sleep because they do not need to wake up every morning for school. Getting more sleep is extremely beneficial to the body and helps the mind. Not only will an abatement to the school year make for a longer summer break, it will also keep children from becoming debilitated. Students and teachers tend to be exhausted by the end of the current school year. Prolonging it would not benefit students or teachers, but rather give them more stress. Motivation at the end of the year has been diminished and extending the school year will make it even harder to push through to finish the year. When there is no more effort, there is no reason to keep going. Students would especially be dissatisfied that they are still in school when they should be on summer break. Thoughts like this could create negative attitudes and make them less likely to learn or retain any new
