The debate of whether public schools should adopt a Uniform policy have been going on for decades. School uniforms in public schools give students a sense of identity and acceptance as part of an organization with a sense of belonging. However, this debate is split down the middle with a variance of pros and cons, but, do you know that students that wear school uniform record higher test scores from those that don’t? This is just the beginning on how schools uniforms can make a difference in student’s life. According to the National center for Education Statistics, 30% of U.S public schools already have a uniform policy in place, so what is stopping the remaining 70%? School uniforms have a positive effect on students and can decrease violence in school, save parents money, and eliminates distractions among students. Children go to school to learn and adopt basic life skills in-order to succeed in life. So when the opposition say that uniforms limits self-expressions, it is uncomfortable, and expensive, are just over the top (Arguments against School Uniforms) n. pag.). I am not here to argument the opposition, but to politely say that they are wrong when it comes to their opinion on uniforms in public school. Child psychologist Dr. Alan Hilfer, stood his ground on his argument and implied that uniforms is not responsible for school violence, but the lack of teaching on how violence is not the way to go. I am not taking completely disagreeing with Dr. Hilfer, but I think his take on this issue is more from a psychological point of view, instead of what statistics taken over the years really said.
