Should School Start Later Analysis

In the article, “Should School Start Later” by Justin O’Neill, he writes about how if school times change to be later, the kids will benefit greatly in school and at home. O’Neill wrote that kids would be more alert when in school, or at home. To start, he wrote that kids would be alert and more awake. Since they are more alert, they have a better chance at getting good grades and less detention or other punishments from older figures such as parents, teachers, or principals. Equally Important, he wrote that a study in 2012 showed that the kids test scores rose from middle and high school students. The students got higher grades in both reading and math, which will help them in the future with jobs and college. Along with higher test scores, the students were happier to go to school. Since they did not have to get up so early, the students have less tardiness and are mostly always on time. To summarize, Justin O’Neill wrote benefits of having the schools start times change in order for the kids to have an easier week. …show more content…
To begin, kids will not suffer problems they would if school started earlier. Instead of suffering mental and physical problems such as obesity and depression, kids will get over these problems and not have to suffer them. Along with they will not suffer problems, they will also need less sleep on the weekends. The students circadian rhythm will be normal and even so that kids will wake up and go to bed at the same times. Lastly, the kids will actually wake up on weekdays. Instead of saying “five more minutes” they will get that five more minutes to sleep or get up and get extra studying in for a big test that day. In spite of all the negative things that happen if schools do not start later, there are benefits shining
