Teachers Should be Allowed to Conceal Weapons. How many more students have to be killed in school shootings before teachers are allowed an advantage in protecting the kids they are responsible for? Criminals that shoot up schools are cowards and have no common regard for human life. Gun control is an overwhelming debate in this day and age, people believe that guns kill people when in reality it is people that kill people. People are so afraid of guns that they take them out of the hands of everyone they can, including teachers who have the ability to stop a huge amount of heartache and death. Which in reality we should be taking advantage of the fact that we can arm ourselves to fight off these criminal attacks. School shootings are becoming a more serious and much more common tragedy. There were no less that 52 school shootings within the last year. One of the most disturbing took place in Sandy Hook elementary school where there were 26 human beings lost their lives because they were defenceless against an armed enemy. The school had just installed a new security system the summer before this tragic event took place. “The armed gunman used an assault rifle to literally shoot an entrance into the school,”(Connecticut gov. Daniel Malloy). During this time three …show more content…
If a teacher snaps one day he or she could pull out their weapon and shoot a student. While the odds of this are incredibly small it is still an issue that must be taken into consideration. A more likely issue would be an accidental discharge which could happen for many different reasons: such as taking the weapon out of its concealed place and moving it and not being careful enough around the trigger, or if a teacher was being careless and just touching the gun they could cause an accidental discharge. If a student were to get their hands on a teacher 's weapon they could then use that to devastating effect, and quite possibly become a

Author Timothy Wheeler starts out his article with an incident happened at the Cleveland’s Success Tech Academy where four people were injured with no mortality as a result of quick elimination of the shooters. He moves on to point out the vulnerable areas of the ineffective school security and the gun free zone policy that makes school ground an easy target for psychopath killers. To prove his points, he gives us the mass murder of 1999 in Los Angeles Jewish day-care center that committed by Buford Furrow’s, and the raped and the massacre that happened between September and October 2006 in Bailey, Colorado which committed by Nickel Mines. He brings his point across that allows gun at school can be effective to stop the shooter from further executing innocent victims.…

The dangers associated with allowing teachers to have guns on the property creates “diminished safety for students, faculty, staff, and visitors” (The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, 2000, p.2). The most prominent concerns reasonably revolve around both “mental illness… and the misuse of firearms” (Malcolm, 2016, p. 1). Higher risk levels of injuries and fatalities occur when firearms are used improperly, and a vast number of people are uneducated on the proper handling of defense weapons. Perhaps a teacher’s mental instability could be unleashed on an irritating student by an easily accessed bullet rather than a simple scolding. The opposing side is very skeptical of the sanity and morals of teachers and their possession of guns in the classroom.…

It is fought in both the smallest and largest school districts in many states. Many districts remain opposed to arming teachers because of all the potential issues with having guns within a school. However, history tells us that it’s better to be safe than sorry, and in this case teachers would rather carry a concealed handgun and never use the gun than not have a gun but need one. Teachers and administrators should be allowed to carry guns on school grounds in an effort to help protect our…

Dear Lamar Times Editor, April 13, 2018 We are students at Purvis Middle School and we would like to talk about an argument that we feel strongly about, which is the topic of arming teachers. Recently people have been talking about arming teachers. People say that this will lead to less school shootings and it might, but there's more to this than people realize and it will be a lot harder said than done. Have you ever thought of the teachers position? How would the teachers feel?…

What I think... Teachers should not have guns because what if a kid got caught in a crossfire of the guns. Another reason that teachers should not carry guns is like at a high school kids if they got left in a room Unattended and the teacher the the gun in the desk and the kid knew it and the kid got ahold of the gun. Then that would end in disaster. Another reason that teachers should not have guns is that what if a student had been constantly annoying and being disrespectful and the teacher finally just snapped and shot the kid, that would send the teacher to jail and the kid either to heaven or to the hospital. Another reason that teachers should not have guns is that teachers are there to teach the kids not be a security guards or a babysiter.…

After the Sandy Hook (2013) shooting the National Rifle Association suggested that every school in America no matter the size have armed guards. Looking the enrollment size of a school with less than three hundred people about twenty-three percent of schools had security guards or sworn in officers in (2005-2006) school year; and about twenty-seven point six percent in (2007-2008) and the number goes down to twenty-five percent in (2009-2010) school year. When the enrollment size increases to 300-499 students, the same pattern occurs with a school enrollment size 300 or less. In the school year 2005-2006 about thirty percent of schools had security guards or sworn in officers. In the school year 2007-2008 the number increases to thirty-six percent of school nation wide having armed personnel in schools.…

If a student’s intent on hurting people they would know who would have a gun and how to get it. Also school officials are not the police, they have not been trained for these types of situations and can do more harm than good. The police can respond calmly than someone who is not used to being in these situations. Teachers should not be leaping in and start shooting away trying to fight the attacker, they should be trying to get the students away safely. More guns being fired is not the solution in a mass shooting and would likely bring more casualties and be harmful than intended originally.…

These are the statistics of only three of the many school shootings that take place nationwide. Students and teachers were fatally harmed for no reason at all by troubled teens who struggled in their everyday lives. If they had been given proper help, would that have made a difference? If the schools had better security and safety precautions, would it have saved the many valuable lives lost? Although school shootings are insufferable tragedies, they benefit modern society with improvements in security tactics, mental health services, and crime prevention through environmental design.…

These teachers should go through the most intensive background check because they have the ability to hurt a lot more kids than a random person trying to shoot up a school. If the teachers can get a hold on a gun and then tell the guy with the gun that every class is packed and ready to shoot then I believe the maniac will come to his senses and get out of the school. I feel the same way about guns in the workplace. For example at my mom's shop, she was looking at the cameras and someone was breaking into a truck late at night and instead of my mom having a gun for self-defense at her work place she had to take cover as the robber shot a bullet in her direction. This is why I feel so strongly about gun rights and where you can and can't take them.…
