Should School Days Be Extended Analysis

Improved Essays
School boards all across the world are debating on should school days be extended. Many people disagree while others agree. However I’m on the agree side . I agree school should be extended because we can have more school activities, more class time , and helps students succeed. A reason I agree with more time is because students enjoy electives so if we get more school time we can take more electives. An addition to having more time our classes could be longer. We could have more clubs because we have more time to participate in these activities. Also they could extend our lunch breaks because more time . Therefore more school time gives us more time to do enjoyable things.
Another reason for more school is extended class time. More class

In the academic community the issue about shortening the school week is a major topic. Just like most arguments they're are two sides to this issue, and both sides have a strong opposition. Personally I think that the 4-Day Week is a beneficial endeavor. For one, more students are attending school, instead of ditching, dropping out, or having to miss they’re classes for various reasons. Second it saves the schools a lot of money, and lastly, students are improving in their school studies.…

After lots of research I decided that we shouldn’t have the same classes 5 days a week and that some classes we don’t need as many years as we get. What I figured out is that we shouldn't have the same classes all 5 days each week but should instead change it up like they do in college. Colleges have found this helps lighten the homework load and make students feel better about it. After I thought of this I also thought do Chem, History, Gym, English, Math, and a foreign language really need as much time as we put into it. After I did lot of research I learned that the majority such as math and history don't and that they should actually have more of gym and some music classes…

Some people believe that year-round schools are better for students academically, wail others think that they are not. Breaks in the school year (called intersessions) can be better for some students. Students should be on a year-round calendar because of behavior in the class room, the frequent breaks in the school year, and the student’s education. Schools should be on a year-round calendar because of behavior in the class room. “lifescript.com” states that the majority of problems with students is that when some kids don’t have a break from school that kids start to get board in class and start to mess around/disrupt other students.…

If school is all year round there will be drastic changes in the american lifestyle. For example school being all year round would be a problem for children because year round school will not give students enough family time. This is the case because sometimes parents like to take a vacation, or a break once in awhile. Therefore the government should let schools have a break during the school year so that children can have time to spend with family and friends. There are many more problems such as parents would have to make scheduling adjustments, and year round school won’t give students enough time to spend with family and friends, and year round school would cost more money.…

Ohio State University research “Year Round School Don't Boost Learning” has shown that students who go to school all year only show a 1% better than students who go for a shorter time. These numbers are so low that the benefits of all year school is not worth the extra money that would cost taxpayers. It's not the taxpayers who are paying the costs, families are affected most due to parents having to hire more caretakers or take days off to take care of their kids during breaks. Large studies by Penn State Harrisburg and North Carolina show that academic success comes down to the teacher's skill not the time spent in class. If a teacher doesn't teach well it doesn't matter how many days the students go to school due to the bad teacher.…

School should not have electives that waste time but a short day with only having core clasess in the day. Their should be a very little break over the summer with short clasess everyday with only the core clasess. This would improve students learning because they won't have distractions like electives to make them not consentrate on the teacher when they are teaching. The weekends would stay the same because the students still need a few days in between weeks to rest and get ready for the next week. The clasess would only be thirty minutes becuase clasess now are too long and overwhelms students when given difficult and challenging it is hard to take in all of the information of a fifty minute class.…

Isn’t lunch the highlight of everybody’s school day? We all know that school can be stressful and tiring, all that knowledge being hammered into your brain along with homework, classwork, and other activities during school such as clubs. As a result of students working hard all day long, they should have a longer time to relax, to get rid of unnecessary stress. This time would ideally be during lunch. I know, for one, that school adds a lot anxiety to my everyday schedule and having a longer time during school to let that anxiety out is, in my opinion, essential to success as a student.…

Mark Twain once said, “I never let schooling interfere with my education.” School is not the only place that learning takes place. Therefore school is not the only place a kid should spend their adolescence. There has always been a big debate on whether or not the school year should be longer. The school year should not be longer because kids need time outside of school, it would cost too much to keep them in school for a longer amount of time, and children should not be denied the opportunities that occur when school isn't in session.…

Schools barely have enough time to teach kids what they need to know for standardized tests. Rahm Emmanuel, the mayor of Chicago and a supporter of longer school days, said in an interview that because schools don’t have time, “students [essentially] have to pick between social studies versus science; math versus music; reading versus recess." (Schaper, 2012) At least one extra month of school would leave the door open to a lot of learning possibilities. Kids leave grade school and are not prepared for what is ahead of them.…
