There are many school rules that should be changed but one of the school rules that stands out the most is the semester test absences. It really doesn't make sense that students have to take all the semester test just because they missed one day without an excuse. One reason why the one unexcused day rule should be changed is because sometimes students get sick and they have to stay at home and recover. I don't think that this is not far. Some students it might take more then one day to recover.…

The Mill Valley High School Board members should reject the proposed idea of a later school day because it is beneficial to students with after school activities such as sports and jobs. The idea that a later school day is beneficial towards students is preposterous because students with after school activities and jobs would need to be out of school at an earlier hour. Take John Sherwood’s testimony for example. He complains, “But it’s going to make football practice a nightmare. We won’t be able to be dressed and on the field until 4:45, and in October, it starts getting dark by 5:30...…

The average teenager needs 8-10 hours of sleep each night to maintain a healthy lifestyle, according to the National Sleep Foundation. Their circadian rhythm causes them to want to fall asleep around 11:00 pm and need approximately 9 hours of sleep every night, which result in teenagers waking up later too. A good solution would be to have a later school-start time. However, problems that might have been overlooked in the past are now resurfacing. All of these situations suggest a later start time is not a viable solution.…

Indepence from Early School Starts Times Due to the course of human events, like being forced to get out of bed outrageously early, thus having trouble focusing in class due to the extreme fatigue it has caused me, I declare my separation from the school’s early morning schedule. We stand together, defending the right to sleep in, with time to prepare for the day ahead. Actions must be taken, such as being provided with more time in the morning before school. Us, hard working students, deserve to be pleasant and well-rested; don’t you remember sleeping in and being elated?…

According to the article The Disadvantages of Longer School Days, Kristine Tucker states that "When kids are too mentally exhausted to concentrate, the last half hour of each class becomes useless." This means that teaching for the whole 96 minutes becomes a waste of time for not only the students but the teachers as well, thus not showing improvement in test scores and grades will tend to decrease at an alarming rate. The test scores the students took will show the school performance level going down. And the teachers will most likely be to blame to this, which might result in the possibility of being fired for not teaching the student what they need to be taught, and not showing…

In fact, 79% of teens in secondary schools have been found to periodically be involved in these after-school activities. 57% of those kids participate in activities that are not related to their school (Scios). For that 57%, getting to their extracurriculars would be a challenge. Businesses outside of school do not adhere to the school schedule. Therefore, pushing back a school start time would push into those activities, causing teens to lose a valuable part of their life.…

High School and Middle School Days Should Start Later Should middle school and high school days start later in the day? In my opinion, I don't think it should. The school day should not change their time later in the day. There may be really good pros to the idea, but there are also plenty of cons for delaying the school start times. These cons can affect both students and the teachers.…

The problem with that argument is that the teachers in this school are nice, but they keep very good order in the classroom. I know from personal experience that they will not hesitate to give out consequences or take further action if necessary. Therefore this problem may be real in some other schools, but in our school it is non-existent. Kids should be able to pick their own schedule because they want to and it can release tension in classes where they have to friends. Not every parent has their children go to daycare. Matter of fact parents of older children rely on them to watch their younger sibling’s afterschool. With grade school going beginning at 9am that puts schools releasing students at 4pm, while older students going in at 8am would be released an hour earlier providing amble time to prepare to watch younger siblings. Another way of looking at it is most high school students like to work after school to earn money for themselves. Getting out of school earlier allows them to either pick up extra hour of work or get home extra hour earlier to work on school assignments.…
