Students struggle every morning to wake up for school. After struggling to wake up, they struggle to stay awake for eight hours straight. Society should fix this, students should not have to struggle to keep their eyes open while being educated. Years ago people decided to begin school rather early because it is more convenient to cram the school day in early and leave the afternoon for homework and after-school activities… but was it really the right decision? Starting school even just 30 minutes later than 7:30 am would be a huge benefit to students. So why not start school at least just 30 minutes later? “After all, our children's ability to move into healthy adult lives tomorrow depends on what we as adults choose for them today.” -(Wallace, Kelly). School should start later because, later school start times result in better and improved test scores, early start times lead to sleep deprivation which can cause depression, obesity, and more teen car accidents, and, teens do not physically begin to feel tired till around 11 pm and are wired to wake up at around 9 am.

Penelope A lewis said that, “Sleep deprivation distorts your emotions” and that “low mood is a normal consequence of being overtired.” Everyone needs sleep, without the right amount of sleep, people have become disoriented and have even hallucinated. It is not very easy to learn in school while being sleep-deprived and disoriented, and students have to do that every
