There is a question that has been circulating around the desks of politicians and judges for many years now, whether or not marriage should be limited to a man and woman or include those considered to be “gay”. In almost every major religion in the world the practice of being homosexual is a sin or blasphemous within itself. However, in the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment of the US Constitution is states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion” essentially erecting a wall between the church and state (US Constitution Online). With that said, there are other pros and cons that could influence the decision of whether same sex marriage should be legalized.

With pro-creation in mind, do all couples get married and have children? Some physically cannot so adoption is a solution. More children being adopted into gay families certainly seems like an upside than being stuck in an orphanage all their life. Also, if the amendment to the Constitution is phrased correctly all that nonsense about marrying an animal or multiple people could certainly be rectified. In addition, legal rights of the people of the United States must also be realized. Gay people are still considered citizens, are they not? The First Amendment provides rights that cannot be taken away. Love is also a major factor in marriage. Why does anyone get married? For the love they share, people get married because they love someone and most of the time not for the tax benefits. Traditional family values would not be upheld in the process of legalizing gay marriage. However, it would not harm society and has no significant damaging impact on anyone else. Denying them their right to marry would be minority discrimination and could be seen as an unconstitutional act. Legalizing this could lead to the biggest religious challenge the world has ever seen.
