Should Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare be taught in school? Most schools have their students read Shakespeare. Nevertheless, students should not read the play because it is not relatable, involves suicide, and is difficult to comprehend. One of the reasons why youth should not read Romeo and Juliet is that it is not relatable to their lives today. Romeo gets married to Juliet before they reach the age of 18. Even in pop-culture today there are still new renditions of this play coming out including the big screen. It seems to be able to reach every age of readers/viewers and unless one is to pay close attention to the story then they will definitely miss the most obvious fact. Incomplete: So far I have read that Romeo loved Rosaline, he kissed Juliet and they fell in love, they got married secretly, Tybalt killed Mercutio, Romeo killed Tybalt, Romeo was banished, and Juliet took a potion so she would appear dead and not have to marry Paris. I think a lot of people of many ages would enjoy Romeo and Juliet because it involves drama and romance. It is really interesting to already know what happens in the end but not know exactly how it happens. I would say this book is very hard because the old language they use is hard to understand, but we get a translation which makes it much easier.…

I believe that this story is mind opening and educational with decision making. Romeo and Juliet had a tragic love and because of it Romeo died at 15 and Juliet died at 14. Some people would say it should be excluded from our school curriculum because it is sad and heart breaking but I think it should included for that reason and more. Romeo and Juliet are fifteen and fourteen so high schoolers would be able to relate to the struggles of having feelings.…

Seemingly perfect, the two are part of rivalry families which keep them separated. Risking their lives to see each other, secretly getting married and almost being caught all come to an end when the two tragically kill themself. Constantly throughout the play violence and hatred are in the air. Due to this, Romeo and Juliet is not appropriate for a ninth grade audience on the basis of the amount of violence in its content.…

Shakespeare should stay in the high school curriculum because, students learn a great bank of words, they learn how to think differently, and they learn a good message that they can live by, for as long as they can remember it.
