Should Reality Tv Be Mindful?

Decent Essays
The responsibilities of networks should be towards willing and non-willing participants in relation to entertainment such as reality shows, and news broadcasts should be treated different. The reality shows took over cable television several years back. With the scripted drama, ratings were and still are great for business. However, the participates in the reality show are being compensated for their participation. On the other hand, news broadcast isn't paying a soul for their likeness. Thus, networks should be mindful of what they display on their news platform, while reality shows should careless what is aired because of the pay received.

When it comes to retain or discard of malice, I think every situation is different. If said person was brave enough to display some sort of horrible actions, than defamation should be fair game. For example, in current news, if Mr. Harvey Weinstein allegations are true, than defamation should be fair game. However, his actions are disgraceful. I digress!

Because some actions really isn't our business. For example, if a public figure is having an affair, what business dose the public have in that matter. With social media and reality TV, today we tend to be to involved into personal matters. On the other hand, I do think additional laws shouldn't be passed to protect politicians from privacy intrusion. I just think to earn a vote, the candidates actions should be on full display. In our electoral system money certainly talks, but the question is how much and in what way. In Dark Money, the author makes the argument that benefactors like the Koch brothers are using their money to more or less buy influence in the system by building a political network. In End of Discussion Ham and Benson also point to a similar network among liberals that also attempted to do the same. For many people they track the influence of this Dark Money to the decision in Citizens United. While it is true that the amount spent by citizens united has exploded is important to note the extent to which this money is limited.…

From the beginning of time, human civilization has fed upon the circulating world of obtaining, assembling, and broadcasting information upon a wide-spread scale. With sources ranging from the earliest form of publicized word to the current reality of active pictures and dramatic screenplay, society has been infused with an environment of news broadcast. Unfortunately, since the creation of television journalism, the overall goal has shifted from knowledgeable reports to pure entertainment. A platform once used to inform the audience of significant and impacting events has transformed into a network’s obsession with maintaining the audience’s interest. The target is not to keep the public well-informed, but rather to play upon America’s ever-shortening attention spans…

To oversimplify, matters surrounding privacy can be color coded. There are some issues that are very black and white related to the need to “violate” privacy. However, there are also quite a few gray areas where more research needs to be conducted and statistics gathered to formulate guidelines to determine when it is indeed necessary. Privacy in general needs to be treated in a way that is different from other rights and based on the serious consequences of not revealing facts that would be considered “private”.…

As said by Georgia Jagger “Reality tv rots people’s brains.” Reality tv results in children and teens becoming sexists and believing in stereotypes. Reality tv ruins common morals and causes child and teens to act as the actors in the show. Parents should monitor the number of hours their children watch reality tv. Watching reality tv creates the basis of delusions and dangerous stereotypes for the impressionable.…

Jersey Shore is an American reality television series which originally run on MTV from December 3, 2009 until December 20, 2012 in the United States. The show follows the lives of eight housemates spending their summer at Jersey Shore, New Jersey. The morality of this show can be questioned since members usually behave like reckless teenagers. Certainly there is not underage drinking, but we have to question ourselves why is this behavior shown on air as normal and acceptable. Moreover, reality-show culture has boomed nowadays, rushing the degeneration and helping to create a society in which celebrities (known thanks to technology) are the new nobility.…

Of course we all know that reality stars are constantly stared upon but to what extent? Reality television producers have one job and one job only, that is to capture the everyday life of reality stars no matter what the cost is. Networks are willing to air anything and everything regardless of the collision on their cast members until once the ratings are affected or even threatened to stop watching. Networks are setting bad examples and reps of the reality stars by airing the dirty laundry, as long as it doesn’t put them at serious risk of lawsuit. A Lot of networks, are most of the time unable to resist family secrets even if it means going against the stars…

In Amusing Ourselves to Death, Neil Postman discusses “the news of the day”(7), and his opinion on it. Had it not been for the mediums that we get our information from, we would not pay attention to certain stories. He states that the news of the day is simply “a figment of our technological imagination” (8) and without the platform to display it, “the news of the day does not exist” (8). I agree with Postman's view because in my everyday life I choose to get information from not only the people around me, but from media that reports stories from all over the world. I usually start my mornings with local news on television.…

Ever since the incident on September 11, 2001 we had an act that was passed in haste only 45 days after the attack. We had an act that was passed by George W Bush in a time of fear and unease . Even though we 're trying to protect American liberties from enemies, it is wrong to take away individual rights. One act before the patriot act was Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1968 Also called “Wiretap Statute” which restricted the government 's ability to listen to private conversation, both was controversial because it was signed in 1968 and we did not have the technology we had back then like laptops and cell phones which could be used in very bad ways to hurt or even worse kill people (Patriot)But it also could be a burden for the innocent people who have the government listen on to their private conversations which would take away their constitutional right to privacy. So too little of not listing and to much of listening in on peoples conversations is a bad thing, that 's why we should find a balance between the two so we don 't change the principles we have as a country .…

In order to present our country well to the rest of the world, we must elect representatives that we feel can take on our responsibilities as well as their own. People should be concerned with the private affairs of a politician or political candidate. If the politicians want their citizens to trust in what they promise to bring to them, then the people should be able to know everything, from their past to their present. Citizens have the right to know who they are electing to be put into a position of authority. It is a basic human right to be knowledgeable and if we are not informed about our politicians then I believe we are being deprived of one of our rights.…

As the CBS Program Director for the Detroit television market I would not cancel showing the TV show because it does not reflect what is actually happening in real life. I believe this because even though there are racial problems in cities on regular basis they are irrelevant to the current city because these racial movements and crisis start elsewhere. Such as the violence in Detroit did not start until something happen in Los Angeles and there shouldn’t be controversy in Detroit about Los Angeles racial issues. My three main reasons of not censoring their content includes freedom of speech and expression rights, stations have to still make revenue and canceling the show does not allow a free marketplace of ideas. As a business the news stations has a priority and right to showcase their programming content and utilize their free speech rights and expression rights.…

In her essay “Getting Real With Reality TV,” Cynthia Frisby examines how Reality TV has became one of the most watched television programs. Frisby then discusses her beliefs that, while watching Reality TV programs, viewers tend to draw comparisons between themselves and the reality star. She then gathers a team of researchers who conduct surveys that ask simple questions about participants relationship with Reality TV, and the team performs a content analysis on these participants while they view certain Reality TV programs. Ultimately, she suggests that her research shows that almost all participants showed some type of comparison between themselves and the reality star. Throughout her essay, Frisby uses adequate amounts of evidence to support…

    Australian Politicians

For many years now, we have seen the lives of politicians and ministers be publicised in the media. Whether it is through the news, newspapers or magazines, or even online, the lives of our politicians have been publicised for the nation and world to see. This raises the question of whether or not politicians’ lives should remain hidden from the public eye, or their private information should be made public for Australians to see. I believe that politicians should have their private lives put out publicised, if it were to have a direct impact on the wider community, state or nation that they govern. In fact, we as Australians have the right to know that our MPs are not doing anything that would prove detrimental to the rest of us.…
