Prisons lessen the crime rate because punishing these criminals within our prisons are what discourages other potential criminals from committing any crimes. Many young adults around the age of 18 through their mid-twenties tend to avoid committing crimes with the lingering thought of possibly facing prison or jail time for any of their wrong doings, which tends to keep those potential people out of incarceration. If we build more prisons that sense of security states in our minds with the ease of knowing that all criminals despite the large number are kept locked up and away from our families and everyday lives. We are not solving any issues by building new prisons to house criminals, we would only be creating a temporary solution to a long term problem. As the lack of funding takes into effect prisons will sense that weakness within and cause an uproar of riots as they begin to rebel against the government to make their point and even in some cases escape if it were ever possible. This is exactly why we should use what prisons we have and reform them starting programs and even possibly lessening sentencing times for certain individuals who never committed any severe crimes that way it opens up more room for the real offenders who really should be locked up and kept away from other law abiding
