He has two Jobs which tells us that at least Pony will have shelter and something to eat. For example, “I hate to leave you here by yourself, Ponyboy,”Darry said slowly.”Maybe I ought to take the day off.”( Hinton pg. 112) This quote is representing that Darry is working hard to support ponyboy economically, but he also accepts the fact that ponyboy needs him to be home, so he can take care of him and communicate like a normal family. Darry is not being an ignorant and accepts the situation, and doesn’t like that ponyboy stays at the house by himself. Another important example was also , “Pony, where have you been all this time?”he meant”Pony, you had me scared to death. Please be careful, because I couldn’t stand it if anything happened to you ”( Hinton pg. 98). Darry asked where was ponyboy because he cared about him and like obviously said in the quote, he showed that he was worried sick about him. Darry proved that he did care about ponyboy and didn’t just leave him be and care any less what would happen to ponyboy out in the streets. Given these points, Darry should keep on being ponyboy’s legal guardian because he shows interest in ponyboy’s well being, and actually tries to communicate with ponyboy, but ponyboy just doesn’t let him …show more content…
Not to mention, “Soda , did I ask for Darry while I was sick? Yeah sure, he said looking at me strangely. You asked for him and me both. Oh I thought maybe I didn’t ask for Darry. It was bugging me.” (Hinton pg. 159) Ponyboy is showing emotions towards darry, like caring if he asks for him, If ponyboy didn’t have a decent life and a stable home it wouldn’t matter to him if he asked for Darry or not. Also supporting that, Ponyboy didn’t need to worry about Darry ,at this moment, because he was in the hospital and needed to recuperate, but what happened ? He was concerned about Darry’s feelings, and being curious to see if he didn’t mess up and do something to ruin their relationship as brothers. Another quote that was equally important as the one above was, “What would it be like, i wondered, in a different ceiling? What would it be like in a different bed, in a different room? There was a hard, painful lump in my throat that i couldn’t swallow.” (Hinton pg. 157) Restating what the quote said above, Ponyboy was visualizing and thinking what would it be like to change your life in one instant, with 1 click on a computer he was going to be in a different room, with people who he has never interacted with, and in another life. Ponyboy knew if he left his brother it was for good, he knows that Darry
