Research Paper Today, many believe that police officers go out of their way to target and commit horrendous actions against others simply because of race. However, at the same time many go out of their way to engage law enforcement officers in violent conflict. People seem to forget that behind every badge is a living, breathing human being. In today’s world, many claim that law enforcement officers are brutal and have become militarized. This is a false narrative. Of the almost 9,000,000 some odd arrests in 2014, statistics provided by the FBI show that over 6,000,000 of them were made on whites. While on the other hand, only around 2,500,000 of them were made against blacks and Hispanics. That’s roughly 70% white and less than 28% black and Hispanic. That doesn’t seem to quite add up with the theory of law enforcement agencies being racially biased. The Department of Justice recently concluded an examination concerning the Newark, N.J., police office, which it found to have more than once disregarded the racial equality of Newark 's black residents. The proof? Studies found that while blacks represent 54 percent of Newark 's populace, they represent 85 percent of pedestrian stops and 79 percent of arrests.

However this has no correlation to racial bias or police profiling, but the simple fact that blacks commit over fifty percent of all major crimes in the United States. Crime statistics recorded by the Federal Bureau of Investigations show that for 390,233 arrests for violent crimes, nearly 150,000 of them were black.
