Killing and ending the breeding of pit bulls would result in the extinction of the breed, which is unfair because most of them have done nothing to justify their deaths. In the U.K., they have already banned many breeds. To sell any of these dogs, they have to get fixed so they can’t reproduce. Breeders have already stopped breeding many breeds. The Dangerous Dogs Act of 1991 banned four breeds of dogs.
The solution to the pit bulls getting banned is that all of them need to get microchipped and would need insurance on all the dogs. Furthermore, they should receive additional training. They should also require muzzling the dogs in public, just in case. One obstacle that we would face is that not everyone would agree, and that would cause conflict. Not all owners want their dogs microchipped or to pay for insurance on their dogs, or the dog is a stray, and that leads to more dilemmas.
Rates of dog attacks have increased, but in 2010, overall dog attacks went down 40% and pit bulls alone 35%. The rates going down are good because we are more likely not to ban more dog breeds.
