A debatable and controversial topic of today's society would be if Euthanasia or physician- assisted suicide should be legal or illegal. This paper will discuss what is Euthanasia? Why doctors are against it, and where it’s legal or illegal?
Euthanasia or PAS is an option for terminally ill people that have the option to end their suffering and pain. The process is quick and dignified using injections of potassium chloride for a peaceful death. Euthanasia is for elderly, sick, and disabled people. Euthanasia is divided into different categories. “Voluntary Euthanasia” is when a person is killed upon that person’s request for reasons of ending suffering( "Euthanasia;Assisted Suicide. ). “Involuntary or nonvoluntary euthanasia” is the mercy killing of a medically or legally incompetent person, such as a child or a non responsive elderly patient, at the request of, or by, a caregiver or family member ( "Euthanasia;Assisted Suicide. ). “Passive Euthanasia” to describe a death that occurs …show more content…
Based on interviews with 355 oncologists, they found that about 5% had performed euthanasia and 5% had performed PAS ("Euthanasia Suicide Mercy-killing Right-to-die Physician Assisted Suicide Living Wills Research." ). PAS is someone assisteding the patient with drugs to help them in end their own life. In the past year a study shown that 4% of oncologists had performed euthanasia or PAS.
