Should People Be Put In Danger Because The Colour Of Their Skin Is Different?

Why should someone be put in danger because the colour of their skin is different? The issue I am talking about today is one of the most long-lasting concerns of humanity. We thought racism ended about 60 years ago, but what people don’t realize is that every day and every night there are unspeakable acts of racism taking place around the world. For example, months ago in Baltimore, a police officer murdered a young black boy. It seems that the people that are meant to protect us are the one destroying us.

The act of racism is immoral: it kills its victims very slowly by destroying every bit of confidence they have. Racism does not only hurt physically, but it also damages people emotionally, psychologically and mentally. The results of these physical and psychological attacks are destroying families. In America a black man is murdered every 28 hours; Also in America, 7/10 of the young black boys are more likely to go to jail compared to their white counterparts. This is due to the result of black boys serving a harsher sentence for their crimes. It is despicable to think that a whole generation has already been class as delinquents by the police who arrested them and judges who condemned them.

Imagine living each day in fixation realizing that everywhere you go, each one of the things you do is being judged. Imagine being teased and marginalised in school because you're "different". Imagine you are that little child at the back of the class isolated because their skin colour is different. No one likes to be left out, but then, why do you judge? This issue is not going and will not stop by itself. We are responsible for the change that we want as Gandhi says ‘Be the change that we want to see in the world.” It is our individual responsibilities to change society’s approach to

To me, Caucasia by Dannzy Senna, is a great novel, which weaves through difficult topics into a sensitive, absorbing read. In essence, Caucasia is a well-crafted “coming of age story” that highlights the strict confines of race. The novel mainly shares the journey of Birdie Lee, a young bi-racial girl who was growing up in Boston in the mid 1970’s. We learn Bridie’s father is black and her mother is white; and Bridie’s older sister Cole has dark skin, while Bridie is more light skinned. Eventually, the girl’s parents can’t get along at all, and this causes the family to fall apart.…

Everyday when a kid walk down the hall their peers are judging them. Before a student does any work for class the teacher already has a prejudice against them because of societal stereotypes that have been imprinted on us. “It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences” - Audre Lorde. As the years pass, the need to accept others as they are is still an issue. Despite the attempt to make this issue disappear, people are still being judged by their race, beliefs, physical appearance and much more. This type of judgement happens all over the world and can affect people and a community both physically and emotionally.…

It’s common practice in the human brain to view people and things that are familiar to them as superior. But that does not justify the condemning of others who are viewed as “lesser” people. Specific groups in America have been targeted because of their differences since the formation of the United States. These groups are called out for their variance from norms and are physically and emotionally attacked for their differences. Groups such as women who make up fifty percent of the population in the United States remain oppressed by structures that were put in place hundreds of years ago.…

There is deep rooted racism in today’s policing system. This system is set in order to control people of color and other minorities. In addition to controlling minorities, prisons are able to make a profit in insuring all jail cells are filled and all the people incarcerated are working for almost nothing. Not to mention, people of color are routinely stopped and searched by police officers for no real reason other than the color of their skin. In addition, they are also subjected to constant harassment, verbal, and in extreme cases physical abuse by police officers.…

Throughout history there have been numerous acts of racism including slavery, segregation, the Nazi regime, Martin Luther King’s assignation and more. The leaders of these operations had similar values and characteristics. One of the most prominent features of each of these individuals was the colour of their skin. For as long as most people can remember white civilians held a higher status than those of different cultural backgrounds. People of colour were continuously mistreated and were illustrated as savage or uncivilized.…

The emphasis on social justice in all of my TLC classes has taught me a new level of tolerance and understanding for others. I now know how incredibly wrong it is to judge someone based off of socioeconomic class, race, ability, sexuality, etc. But, I also know that everyone, whether it be subconsciously or not, has been guilty of judging or discriminating against someone at some point in their life, and most everyone will be guilty of it many times more. It is inevitable. We are socialized human beings and these judgment traits have been taught to us over the span of our lives.…

Racial Profiling: Necessary or Harmful to Society As a society that is focused on equality and protective laws, are we failing those who are subjected to racial profiling or are we taking caution in order to protect our country? In order to understand this argument, it is important to first know what racial profiling is. Racial profiling, as defined by the American Civil Liberties Union, is the “discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual’s race, ethnicity, religion, or national origin.” From this definition it can be seen that discrimination, stereotyping, and inequality are all clear characteristics of racial profiling. This vile act of judgement in today’s society…

Personally, I can not imagine living a life where I am treated differently and pushed to the outside by the images of society just because of the color of my skin. The country, in which we live in, is the greatest country in the world. However, without a doubt we do have many things that we do wrong. I believe one of the biggest felonious acts we commit is that we throw people in jail due to “The War on Drugs.” There are so many misconceptions when it comes to drugs, people who do drugs and what drug abusers really are. People who never have done drugs really don’t know the highs that it gives or the effects it has on you first hand why, because those people are too busy shoving their noses at the one ones who do drugs.…
