In our society today, children are becoming more and more disrespectful, while the parents are trying their best to get their children to behave. Spanking is one of the most controversial means of discipline. This topic is often split into two groups completely opposite of each other, being people who support it and people who are against it. Some that are for it say that it is a vital tool in receiving respect and teaching their children how to behave. It is a common method of discipline for misbehaved children. However, it is not accepted everywhere in the world. In fact, in some places it is prohibited by the law. If it is prohibited by the law, the prosecuted could have their children taken away from them and have themselves put in jail because spanking is seen as child abuse. Even though it may be prohibited, some parents will still use spanking as a form of discipline. Spanking was not only used by the parents, but also most authority figures such as teachers. Even though spanking is prohibited in many areas throughout the world, spanking is actually quite common. There is a difference between violence and discipline. Violence is defined as getting beaten senseless while discipline is getting a simple smack to correct behavior.
