Through July 2015 five sting video were released by The Center for Medical Progress, an anti - abortion group, that showed Planned Parenthood executives and workers discussing how the organization provides fetal organs and tissues to researchers. The Center for Medical Progress had actors pose as representatives of a company charged with procuring fetal tissue for researchers. They secretly recorded trips to two clinics located in Texas and Colorado, and lunches with executives of Planned Parenthood. This is the reason for all the media attention and government investigation circulating Planned Parenthood. All wield allegations of Planned Parenthood profiteering from the sale of fetal tissue is scorched to ashes when the videos are transcribed. Every time the Planned Parenthood officials communicated anything to do with the exchange of money for fetal tissue they have specified that the money was for the preservation of the tissue before delivery and the delivering of the tissue. Which seems logical since in one of the videos Mary Gatter, the medical director of Planned Parenthood, states that she would sell the the tissues for around $50. A $50 charge for the “shipping and handling” is fairly appropriate since a one day shipping for amazon is about $20 and that isn’t that the tissue must be kept at a certain temperature, is fragile, and most likely must be delivered within a minuscule time frame. Imagine how much Amazon would charge if you needed a 3 hour delivery. Amazon would most definitely charge a person anywhere from $100 to $500 just for the shipping. This wouldn’t consist of special handling like fragile or keep at a constant 4 degrees Celsius. At $50 per specimen, Planned Parenthood may in fact be losing money with every transaction. With that the allegation that Planned Parenthood is profiting off of the fetal tissue is

Doing this fails to recognize a gray area in society, fails to recognize the complexities and dynamics of issues, and fails to recognize the widespread outreach of people it affects. New videos circulating around the web, of Planned Parenthood’s head doctors discussing selling intact fetal tissue from abortion procedures especially has people in a stir. Gobsmacked by the quick spreading allegations, people are often jumping to assumptions, and conclusions about the organization without doing any actual research on the videos credibility. The problem I have chosen to identify falls within the defunding of Planned Parenthood. Once again this issue has become a heated debate among the republican and democratic members of congress. The democrats in the senate as well as President Obama are being blamed for any government shutdown that may occur due to their persistence in protecting the services provided and the funding allocated by the federal government that is legal as well as ethical. Planned Parenthood has been a financial supporter of Obama’s presidential campaign in the past, which republicans say proves that some type of corruption is now taking place between the two entities. The major accusation that Planned Parenthood has been accused of is profiting from the sale of aborted fetal tissue and by promoting this practice, increases the number of abortions that are being performed without offering any other type of solution to the unwanted pregnancy.…

Many people are under the impression that Planned Parenthood is selling fetal tissue for profit (Chris Ostendorf). However, this is a gross misrepresentation of the ideas that Planned Parenthood embodies. Planned Parenthood is often scrutinized because they perform abortions and provide abortion services, when in reality, they are so much more. Providing for men and women, Planned Parenthood is a diverse source of health care. Planned Parenthood was founded October 16, 1916 as a “nonprofit organization that provides reproductive health services in the United States and internationally (Wikipedia).…

Alternative Solutions or Policies The anti-abortion debate and attack on reproductive health care rights is concerning to me as a woman, what concerns me the most however is affordability of abortion. The Hyde Amendment passed in 1976 excludes abortion from the comprehensive health care services provided by the federal government through Medicaid to people who are low income. There are currently only 17 out of 50 states that fund abortions for low-income women on same or similar terms as other pregnancy-related and/or general health services.…

Abortion is commonly featured in the media, however they package abortion in such a way that they specifically avoid taking a direct stance on whether abortion is wrong or justified, meaning they shy away from being Pro-life or Pro-choice. However, indirectly condensing symbols are often used. For example, using terms such as anti-life rather than Pro-choice or anti-choice rather than Pro-life to describe different stances on abortion have a negative connotation and subliminally reveals the media host’s opinion on the matter. Another example includes when speaking about abortion using the term baby or infant versus using the term fetus.…
