Obesity or mostly known as being overweight is common around the world. ‘Obesity is defined as a complex multifactorial condition characterized by excess body fat’ (Mayo Clinic, 2013). Obesity was first discovered by Hippocrates, the Father of Western Medicine. During ancient Greek time, overweight people are considered to be divine. As time modernize, obesity was believed to cause health dangers such as diabetes, heart attacks and other effects (Begay, 2005). Any individual can become overweight if constant amount of unhealthy food is consumed on a daily basis. However, an individual has the power stay healthy by changing one’s lifestyle. Considering obesity as a disease overwhelms this health issue as it does not fit the criteria of being a disease and raises a sum of questions of why it has been classified a disease.
Some people might consider obesity as a disease as it leads to serious risk in health. They believe that treatment should be given to patients suffering from this disease. However, the term of disease should not be exploited and obese people should not be discriminated. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to point out the misinterpretation of obesity as it should not be considered a disease.

Rather than other complex disease such as flu disease or skin disease which needs plenty of medical observation, obesity can be resolved by doing physical activities to burn out the extra fats that the body holds. It does not require any medical supplements and there are no restrictions in changing the lifestyle to become a non-obese. Simple methods such as going to the gym or cycling around the neighborhood could lower the chances of being obese. By doing so, it proves that obesity is only a health disorder that can be solved with simple actions compared to other disease which needs high
