Obesity creates many arguments as to whether it is a real handicap or not. Many argue that you become obese because of your actions and you should not be able to do things such as skipping lines because you made bad choices. In some cases that’s correct, but not all people can control it. Many obese patients have suffered from past trauma, or other negative events that triggered their addiction. Also, many individuals with obesity grew up being overweight, they grew up never knowing how much or how little to eat. Many cardiac problems can develop which can make exercising for long amounts of times very difficult. The chance of heart disease or stroke can go up immensely. This can be difficult when being active because your heart will be working much harder than it should, which can cause a heart attack or other heart problems. Type two diabetes can also develop because of the excessive sugar intake and cause the pancreas to slow down or even stop the production of insulin completely. Aside from the cardiac and insulin problems, physical problems can also develop, such as gout or osteoarthritis. Gout is when uric acid accumulates in the blood, which causes crystals to form around joints and makes walking and exercising very difficult due to the pressure which causes sharp pains in knees, ankles and other joints. Even simple tasks such as standing can be very excruciating. Much like gout, osteoarthritis can cause severe pain when walking and moving due to the wearing down of cartilage around the joint because of the excessive pressure from the weight on them. Even after weight loss once the cartilage has worn down you cannot get it back. All of these factors make obesity more difficult to deal with and even harder to
