Should Nuclear Power Be Passed In The United States

There are many opinions on nuclear power. Opponents say that nuclear power reactors release radiation in the air, causing a lot of danger, but supporters say it produces less pollution. I think Nuclear power shouldn't be passed in the United States because it takes a long time, nuclear accidents , and it attracts terrorist. Nuclear power uses fission to make electricity.fission is the splitting of a heavy nucleus into two lighter nuclei. Fission generates heat to produce steam, then it’s used by a turbine generator to make electricity.(Duke 2016) Firstly, Nuclear power takes a long time to build. Building a nuclear plant takes about 10-19 years. They will need to get a site permit which takes around 3 ½ to 6 years to get and 2 ½ to 4 years to get a construction permit, then it takes 4 to 9 years to actually do the construction. (Mark jacobson) While building the plants we will be using more fossil fuels. Fossil fuels pollute the air which contributes to global warming. A nuclear power plant uses uranium fuel to produce electricity through a process called fission. Terrorist seek uranium because it can be used to make nuclear weapons. If terrorist were to get the uranium they can make nuclear bombs. Nuclear bombs can be deadly. It's easy to think that nuclear power plants are a great benefit for the united states because it will has smaller carbon footprints, it will help with air pollution however, if a nuclear accident were to happen air pollution wouldn't be the problem, radiation would be the problem. This would mean that people would not be able to survive in that area and would need to evacuate. This is worse than any other problem.
