In response to the article in The Advertiser (7/8/13) on sport in schools, I would like to say how disgusted I am that the new National Curriculum for schools will not include sport as a compulsory subject for all students. As being a student who loves sports and knows the influence it can have, I believe that if it is not in the National Curriculum students can become obese or overweight, can get stressed, and it doesn’t give students a chance to interact with one another.

In an Australian Bureau of Statistics investigation in 2007, it were overweight or obese. This is a huge problem for young children as, in a person later life, it can result in diabetes, heart problems, and general sickness. Also in a National Health Survey the same year, it was found that 25% of students do little or no exercise, causing them to be overweight or obese.

Lastly, sport gives students a chance to learn about new skills. These new skills learnt at a young age can be a very helpful tool when these students get older as they may be needed in a life or death situation. Also, students who don’t have sport lessons can become really stressed about the amount of school work they get, and sport gives them a chance to break away from the stress. So in conclusion, students need these compulsory sport lessons as it allows them to be stress free for an hour, and not worry about the stresses involved in being a school student. Also, without these sport lessons for children, they feel like they are locked in a classroom where their only protection, is covering the book over their

This is a major factor in why I believe sports should not be taken out of schools. America is known for people being obese and the reason is because of laziness. “Forty-six episodes at a commercial-free 47 minutes each — about the length of a psychiatric session — adds up to 36 hours, almost a whole work week.” Proclaimed James Atlas the author of “Get a Life.” This is an example of kids being lazy non active it’s called binge-watching.…

The risk of injury is high with either a twisted ankle or a broken arm, anything can happen, Secondly gym is meant to keep students healthy by making them exercise, meanwhile they are getting enough exercise during their season. Ultimate student athletes are constantly using their after school time and dedicating it to their sport, therefore instead of gym if would be useful to use gym as a period where they can study and do their homework.
