In regards to the table above, we found several things to be interesting to the way these particular students think and form ideas. First off, the students we had interviewed were in either 5th or 6th grade, which means that it’s expected of them to think this task may be a little easy. However, most of the students except one, seemed to confuse metal objects, with non-metal objects. For this reason, we think the students formed ideas based on; if the object is heavy in anyway and appears to look similar to metal, then it must be metal. For example, Robbie and Marta both thought that a penny would attract metal. A penny is fairly dense and a little heavier than the objects that were not metal. Therefore, they placed in their minds that a penny could belong to the metal category. Being that, Metal is dense and thick as well a penny. In addition, Robbie and Marta thought that a soda can and metal fork …show more content…
Most of the student’s thinking was fairly accurate for the most part. There were some confusion on why, some metals do not attract magnets. In addition, the student’s thinking for the rule about how they think objects attract or have no effect on a magnet, were interesting. They all had their own way of interpreting the rule. We think that some of the student’s still don’t completely understand that, not all metals are attracted to magnets. However, Robbie’s rule displayed a better understanding of the activity, after completing his investigation in part one. For example, he said that “only metals are attracted to magnets, but not all metals,” His reasoning shows us that he is aware that only certain metals are attracted to magnets. Furthermore, we think that some students tend to categorize objects based on appearance and similarities, but there concept of how magnets work around objects are creative and mostly

    a. The child’s first goal in her original task of creating a machine to make spaghetti is to put a pole in the hole of one box and put the other side of the pole into the hole of another box, so they are connected. She observes that the pole will not go through the hole in the box. She then takes off the ribbed cylinders on each side pole, and slides the boxes with holes in them back down the poles. Her goal is still trying to place a pole in the side hole of one cube to connect it to the cube parallel of it. She observes that the pole will still not go through the holes of the cube.…

This experiment is to be used to determine the era of which the composition and thus the density of the penny changed, and what the other metal besides copper has made up the composition since 1962. First, ten pennies from three different time periods (1995-1999, 2000-2004, 2005-present) were gathered. All ten pennies from a specific time were weighed together on an analytical balance. Then, a fifty mL graduated cylinder was filled with twenty mL of water, which was recorded as the initial volume. The ten pennies were dropped into the graduated cylinder one at a time so that the liquid didn’t splash.…

While watching the students answer the questions, I noticed that several of them never lined up the paper slip with the bat or any of the other objects they were measuring. Their endpoints never lined up, causing them to incorrectly answer the first six questions. This lack of knowledge went to further diminish their conceptual understanding of how to take the third object and measure the first two objects to compare them. This lack understanding also affected their ability to correctly order three objects from shortest to longest. The mathematical reasoning was either a hit or miss with the students.…

According to the evidence, the way the penny is made can be changed for it to cost less, or make it more cost-effective. To end with, “Steel, which was used to make pennies during World War II, would be a cheaper alternative.” (Rachel Mancuso, paragraph 5). According to the evidence, steel is an example of a metal people could start using right now that could make pennies more cost-effective.…

Tragedies that take place on school grounds send shockwaves through communities. This brings up the argument of whether or not teachers should be allowed to carry a firearm. This topic appeals to me, not because I am a huge advocate for guns, but because safety on school grounds should be of the utmost importance. Ultimately, teachers who elect to carry a firearm on school grounds would have to pass extensive background checks and training. Provisions and policies would have to be set in place to make sure students would have zero access to the firearm and that it be locked away securely.…

On august 1, 1966 Charles Whitman a military trained architectural student, at the university of texas went to the top of the tower at his campus with a head full of “depression and repressed violence” and an armful of weapons. 15 people died that day at the other side of whitman's gun. Seeing how some can misuse their weapons, even with extensive training, not everyone can be trusted to just carry them around especially reckless young adults. Although it is against the second amendment saying that you have the right to bear arms, Guns should not be permitted on college campuses due to the fact that some individuals are just unable to handle the responsibilities that come with weapons of that caliber, and having guns at school scares people away from an education. Being able to carry concealed weapons to school may throw safety…

The concrete permanence of guns when in the wrong hands is something that should not be taken lightly; nor should be a situation that involves children, being around firearms. Children are the foundation of our future society, to ensure that every child gets quality education is extremely high on the list of importance in education, a child’s safety and well being comes far before any academic achievement. Ensuring that the learning place is a safe haven for cognitive progression and development is essential to the learning process. To allow guns into this safe haven for progression within young children is an absolutely absurd concept to even being to attempt to wrap my head around. Unfortunately in Arizona private schools they are able to have guns on campus with proper regulations in place.…
