Whenever the word ‘Marijuana’ appears, it instantly brings negative thoughts. Over decades, the society made marijuana seem as a dangerous and addictive drug that can harm the body such as causing lung cancer. In Canada, the legalization of marijuana can be a controversial topic with many different opinions. However, the truth about the drug is slowly coming out as studies show how it can have a positive impact. Marijuana, also known as ‘weed’, ‘pot’, ‘herb’, ‘dope’ and many other slang terms is a combination of dried out leaves, stems, flowers and seeds that comes from a cannabis plant (UW, 2013). The important part of marijuana that gives the “high” effect to an individual is called the tetrahydrocannabinol also known as THC (UW, 2013). It is a very common drug that is used worldwide with a few side effects. Over 2.3 million Canadians are marijuana users ranging from different groups and ages (uOttawa, n.d.). It can be consumed through edibles such as cookies or brownies, as well as smoking it through a joint, blunt, pipe and bong. Majority of people consume marijuana to obtain the “high” feeling. The experience can be different for every person. Some smokers might feel more relaxed and calm, whereas others may feel more energetic and talkative. It is an illegal drug in most of the countries in the world, Canada being one of them. The society has a stereotypical view when it comes to marijuana, as they only see the ‘pot smoker’ side, ignoring the other qualities. Though,…
