This makes up over forty percent of money spent on war against drugs annually . If we were to legalize cannabis we could earn that much money in taxes annually and we would save 20 billion annually by not having to fund the law enforcement costs. All of the money that would be made by taxing cannabis could be put back into schools. pay teachers more get better books provide the public with better city parks we could fix the mental health care system we could do so much just by legalizing a plant that should have never been outlawed in the first place.
How should we end prohibition? We should let the states decide just as we did with alcohol. When the prohibition ended in 1933 the states had a choice to either keep it ban or legalize it. The end of the prohibition of cannabis should be performed the same way states preside over alcohol and decide dry counties. Just as has started to happen in Colorado where there are towns and counties that have banned dispensaries from being in their town rather than having it be banned completely throughout the whole
