Is Marijuana really as bad as people portray it to be? The answer is no. Marijuana is a very prominent and controversial subject. Many benefits come from the legalization of Marijuana like reduction of inflammation, a decrease in pain, muscle control problems, controlling epileptic seizures, cancer, and also can treat mental illnesses and addictions. Also, Marijuana can boost tax revenue and is immensely good for crime rate. What drew me to this topic was that, because marijuana is not legal, we are missing out on all of the medicines it could be used for. Marijuana can treat Crohn’s disease, epilepsy, PTSD, cancer, multiple sclerosis and much more. Misconceptions of legalizing marijuana are that the “legalization of marijuana means more people will use it,” “marijuana is harmful and addictive,” “marijuana is a gateway drug,” or “marijuana has no medical purpose.” Legalization of marijuana can also insure the safety of dealers and saves government funds. A plentiful amount of research has been done on marijuana including history, which dates back all the way back to the B.C.’s. Using marijuana for medicinal use is not a recent discovery. Marijuana is a hemp plant used for many things. One of the most positive impacts that the legalization of marijuana would make is the use of hemp into our society.
