Should marijuana be Legalized?
Stoners are not the only people who use pot! Marijuana is actually one of the most useful forms of medical treatment, but it’s illegal in many states. The legalization of medical marijuana should be put in order because many people need it, people who need it often go through risks to get it, and it isn’t just a gateway drug. Marijuana is a very useful medicinal herb as it cures many diseases. One of its primary uses is curing seizure disorders. No one has ever overdosed from weed. In fact, one would have to consume about 1,500 pounds of pot in about fifteen minutes to die from an overdose. This is not only impossible, but is a ridiculous amount of weed. Other drugs that are used as pain killers can easily cause death with misuse. Not to mention how much more addictive and destructive these drugs can be in the long run. The only negative effects for marijuana are caused by long term heavy use. But, there is no actual evidence proving this. In fact, some doctors and scientists say that pot causes lung cancer and destroys the brain, but these are only theories and speculation. This is not only illegal, but dangerous too. The drug community is a dangerous place, and those who need the drug for living a healthy life, often get involved. Sometimes dealers will lace the weed with much more harmful drugs, or they could rip the patient off. Sometimes they may even get robbed. Having to illegally get one’s medication doesn’t affect only their self, but their entire family. In fact, according to Marijuana, by Louis I. Gerdes, one man’s son had chron’s disease, and since it was illegal in his state, he had to break the law for his son. His son would hide the pot in a lipstick container when he went to school, and use it in the restrooms. Because it is illegal, this poor kid and his father are putting so much on the line just so the kid can be healthy. Not only is medical pot much safer to purchase than illegal pot, it is also much more affordable and easy to get. Medical marijuana is sold in most pharmacies where it’s legally allowed to be sold, and is prescribed in hospitals and health clinics, opposed too dark allies and shady neighborhoods. While many dealers will sell for about to twenty dollars a gram, the average medical dispensary in Seattle sells a gram for about eight to fifteen dollars.
