As the US election 2016 approaches, more and more people received pamphlet in their mail trying to persuade, manipulate or educate voters regarding the questions on the ballot. This year, not only the states of Massachusetts, but also 7 more states nationwide approved to legalize medical and/or recreational marijuana, “ recreational was approved in four states ( CA, MA, ME, NV) and medical marijuana passed in another four ( AR, FL, MT, ND)” www.norml.org/election-2016. There were commercials on the television, but the most media coverage I saw was through the social media. Reading an article somebody share in Facebook, I learned marijuana has many health benefits, but the most astonished fact is that people do not die from using marijuana. Then, I ask myself, why this drug is illegal and why the Drug Enforcement Administration has classified it as schedule l when it is safest than other already legal medications? If the United States already has an epidemic of opioid overdose, why do not treat patient’s pain with marijuana instead of opioid?
