Thus, they have kept a negative attitude towards the legalization of marijuana. On the other hand, there is a serious injustice phenomenon in the United States judicial department when it deals with the charges of marijuana. The punishment was mainly used on blacks and other minorities. A report from the American Civil Liberties Union showed that the rate of the white group who smoke marijuana was similar to the rate of the coloured races. However, the probability for the coloured races to be caught for smoking marijuana is eight times higher than the white group. People who has a criminal record tend to have difficulties in finding jobs (Geller and Fagan 591-633). Thus, the minority group has generally support the legalization of marijuana. The news from CBS said “Marijuana use was more widely reported worldwide, and the U.S. also had the highest rate of use at 42.4% compared with 41.9% of New Zealanders” ("U.S. Leads the World in Illegal Drug Use"). America is one of the largest marijuana consumption markets. If marijuana is legal, the demand will increase three times per year and the economic aggregate will be enlarged rapidly as about 40 billion dollars (Anderson and Rees 221-232). A larger demand will bring more drug smuggling, which will cause other countries to have trouble in fighting against drug production and traffic crime activities. There is no doubt that the legalization of marijuana will greatly stimulate and encourage smuggling. The increasing of drug smuggling may reignite global drug abuse.
Taking these factors into consideration, we can conclude that marijuana should not be legalized. It is both a gateway and addictive drug that will not only further the aggravate social divisions, but also impact the international anti-drug.
