Should Marijuana Be Legalized Essay

Improved Essays
I think that marijuana should be legalized. Marijuana should be legalized for many, many reasons. First reason would be for medical purposes. Secondly mostly everyone smokes it so there’s no point of it being “illegal” if everyone does it anyways. I don’t take part in smoking or anything like that but it makes no sense if no one is going to follow the law. Then again if you think about it there are so many down takes in making it legal. Second hand smoke is something that would be bad if we legalized it, there would be much more accidents just like when people drive drunk. 58% of americans are in favor of this plant to be legalized, and around 40% of them admitted to smoking it. If you are ok with people ingesting alcohol then you are making no sense because alcohol is in the lead of drugs that harm others and harm users. Marijuana is also a gateway …show more content…
At the end of the day everyone is entitled to their own opinion and all but there is always going to contradictory about what is better and how abstinence is better but everyone is going to think what they want. Whether marijuana is legalized or not people are not going to care and still use it whether it’s for medical purposes or just because they like it and they are addicted. I feel like Marijuana is going to end up being legalized because if it’s already legal in 3 states what makes you think that sooner or later it’s not going to be legal in all 50 states. It’s common sense that no one is going to listen to the law for example isn’t cocaine, meth, and ecstasy are illegal drugs in the U.S. but yet you can turn on the corner of the street and there will be people using it. I personally think that if it is legalized the economy and my generation is going to go down the drain, and illegal transportation of drugs from other countries to the U.S. is going to increase because they already do it so why not when it’s

Synthesis Essay The legalization of marijuana is a conflict that can be seen from many different points of views; from legalization of both recreational and medical reasons to being illegal as a whole. Some may argue that marijuana would ineffectively decrease crime rates in the United States, but statistically this is not the case. Some may also argue that marijuana should not be legalized for the sake of this generation's future, because they would become a “guinea pig generation,” marijuana should most definitely be legalized nationally for both medical and recreational purposes because the drug can promote a better American economy. Statistically, marijuana would not affect any teenagers in high school, and it has been proven that marijuana…

Making it legal would save our government a lot of money. Police chase after people who happen to like to release stress by getting high, they send these people to jail and the taxpayers have to pay for the bill. Citizens have to pay for food, health care, and court costs, paying for all of that is expensive! We could save billions of dollars every year if they stop arresting people for marijuana. In fact, if marijuana was legal, the government would be able to collect taxes on it and would get more money for drug education programs.…

I strongly believe that marijuana needs to be legalized at both the state and federal levels. I feel that way because it’s no worse than alcohol in my eyes. Alcohol has been a huge problem- drunk drivers swerving everywhere on the roads and hitting people, just for the drunk driver to walk away. Marijuana does alter people’s cognitive abilities, but I don’t think it’s any worse than alcohol. I think some people that have decided against cannabis doesn’t understand what it can do for…

Marijuana is not the issue, the issue is that people use marijuana in the wrong way. The article “going to pot” it states Marijuana is more popular and accessible in the U.S. than any other street drug. In national surveys, 48 percent of Americans say they have tried it, and 6.5 percent of high school seniors admit to daily use. So it was not too surprising when two states, Washington and Colorado, became the first to legalize recreational marijuana in the November 2012 general election, albeit in limited quantity, for anyone over the age of 21. ( Khamsi,2013) Marijuana should be legalized because if the government was to give the world access to the drug it would cut down crimes.…
