Should Lockers Be Allowed In Schools Essay

Imagine being invaded at any point. The thought of someone going through my bags or locker is disturbing. When I go to school I shouldn’t have to worry about a teacher or staff member going through my locker. People put special or private things in their lockers. Obviously they don’t want other people looking through their locker. Should teachers have the right to look through student’s lockers or bags at anytime? On one view point, I agree with the thesis. The locker doesn’t actually belong to the student. In terms of ownership it is the school’s locker. Taxpayers pay for the lockers in the first place. The principle is the head of the school, shouldn’t he have the authority to search lockers if he feels the need? Other higher ranking staff members should also have this right if there is concern. On the other hand, this seems like such an invasion of privacy. When a student registers for school he or she is assigned a locker. Students put all their books, bags, and private stuff in the locker. For girls especially, they have female products that they need. Most likely they wouldn’t like a male, or anyone for the matter, to be looking through their stuff. I would always be on edge even if I had nothing to hide. If, for example, a student has a history of bad behavior then yes they should check his or her locker. If it is just a random check of bags and lockers, then I think they shouldn’t do that. If this were implemented into my school I would always have that fear in the back of my mind that a teacher could stop me. Even though I have nothing to hide, some students just don’t like to have face to face conflict with a teacher. So if teachers had these rights the students who were passing around stuff would find other means of distribution. Therefore this would eventually become
