Should Kids Have Too Much Homework Research Paper

Students, teachers, and parents are still arguing that kids have too much homework. Kids are arguing that it’s a waste of time. Parents are arguing that it takes away the time they could be spending with family. Teachers are arguing that it’s more work on them because they have to grade multiple sheets of homework they give out. Kids should have less homework because it takes away valuable time that could be spent with family and too much homework can cause a lot of stress and students barely get any sleep. If students have too much homework, it will take away memorable and important time that could be spent with their family. “There are definetly families out there who want to relax together in the evening but simply cannot do so because the kids are entrenched with homework.” “ If we truly want our students to have strong families, Then we need to not take up all their family time with homework.” These statements I found from a teacher arguing about the same topic is very similar to mine. She is saying that kids have a life they need to enjoy with family and friends but it shouldn’t be homework, homework, and more homework. Kids need to spend time with their families …show more content…
If we want students to improve memory, focus, creative thinking, test performance and even school behavior, the answer is not more homework, the answer is more sleep. Students need their rest to succeed. For example, I got home from school today at 3:15 and went to dance from 4:00-9:30, after that I ate dinner, took a shower, and now I’m still doing homework till 12:00 a.m. Homework should be optional, parents and their children together should be the ones to decide how much and how long they should be doing homework. The teachers and schools do not know the commitments families have outside of

First of all, homework causes stress on students. We may as well just spend all day at school if we are having school at home anyways. Students should go to school, work on “school” work, then come home and not do “school” work at home. This would increase the productivity and attitudes of students. I, for one, would be in a much better mood concerning school if I knew that I didn’t have to look forward to coming home to more school work.…

Parents cannot have it both ways. Mr. Rauch spends a lot of time in his essay talking about how homework would fix the academic issues and bring the United States off the bottom of the list of surveyed countries. One thing that he does not mention is how to get students to do their homework in the first place. He does state that the schools should emphasize homework or…

If kids didn’t have to worry about getting certain assignments done for the next day, I do agree with Darter that, kids would have more time to be kids. In her article Darter refers to a study done at Duke University. The study showed that “all it does is negatively impact kids’ attitudes towards school, learning, and their parents(the homework enforcers).” This research shows, not proves, that homework does have an effect on studies ability to do well in…

One good reason why we shouldn’t have homework is that we already spend 7 hours learning in school. Students shouldn’t have to feel like they are still in school while they should be doing their own hobbies and pastimes. Also, children should have time to spend time with their family. I am saying that…

In the early years of a child’s life, the brain is capable of absorbing information exceeding the ability that of adults. Because of this, many schools determine that they will give these developing young minds homework, hoping that the children will retain the skills they are being taught. Although this philosophy does seem logical, giving homework to children can lead to a myriad of problems. Such problems include lack of physical activity, lack of bonding with their parents, and increased stress levels. According to Parker, researcher and senior lecturer Denise Pope from Stanford University "...found that too much homework can negatively affect kids, especially their lives away from school, where family, friends and activities matter” (1).…

Homework has been in school curriculum for generations, but some results show that it does little to boost academic achievement. Many people feel that the amount of homework schools are giving is too much, teachers and assigning more homework than the recommended amount causing side effects. Excessive homework for students is a recent and important issue that needs to be dealt with. Schools all around the world have started moving toward a less fearful, insecure, and unhappy environment by not giving as much homework to students like schools in Finland, excessive homework for students is taking away from family bonding and outdoor time, causing physical health problems, and high stress levels. Excessive homework for students is disrupting…

Also, I know a little bit about the other side of the debate and that is why the students get this much homework. Homework allows the student to stay with the class and not fall behind. For example, if a student did not receive any homework, they would begin to forget the lessons and this can cause them to fall behind and forget how to do simple things that they would be able to do if there was…

MagnetMom complains about how her daughter’s homework takes away her beneficial sleep. With busy families, like hers, they have many after school activities, so when they get home, they do not have time for too much homework. She says that the reality of it is that they are an active family. For active families, homework causes sleep deprivation and takes away the children’s energy they need for the next day. Time that can be better spent is with family and having fun participating in extracurricular activities. Eliminating homework allows students the reward of free time and the invaluable time spent with family. Homework creates unnecessary stress and strain for parents and students alike. Also, homework allows teachers to pawn off their own teaching responsibilities to students and parents with hours of homework. Homework is not beneficial and it should be banned for students Kindergarten thru 8th…

There is also the fact about the stress placed on these students and their parents. When a child needs help with homework they ask their parents or teacher. They can’t ask their teacher from home or their parents if they are at work. The argument of “why can’t they ask the teacher during class for help?”.…

With all of the stress that is already coming from school, homework only emphasizes that. There should be less homework because it takes up students time, causes a lot of stress, and causes many personal and social problems. A primary reason that students have less free time is that teachers assign an excessive amount of homework. Some students have said “Homework is all I have time for; there’s never…

There are various effective arguments I would make to support students having homework by their teachers. The first argument I would make is that homework helps students to better retain the lessons they’ve learned during the school day. Students need a lot of exercises to do to retain what they learn everyday in school. Since class time isn’t enough to provide a lot of exercises on one subject, homework is the best way to exercise what’s been learned in class. If no homework is given to students on a subject that’s been discussed in class, it’s more likely for them to forget the subject the next day.…

It is a fact that homework is not helping students. According to Richard Walker, an educational psychologist at Sydney University, “kids who have more homework actually perform worse on standardized tests and suffer with mental and physical health” (Binns). The overwhelming amounts of homework lead to not being able to focus on the students themselves. How can we be creative and have lives outside of school, like we are told, when school is our only focus? To be honest, we can’t.…

Family time has been cut out of their life just to keep up with their work. It’s hard for children to see their parents if they have tons of homework and the parent has to work a lot. Homework should be given as optional if the students want to help their grade. Understanding the homework would be easier if it was just classwork because the teacher would be able to help guide through it. Some may argue that homework is a good thing because it helps with…
