Should Kids Have Homework?

What is your proposed topic?

My proposed topic is “should kids have homework?” This is a common debate and I would like to show both sides of the story in my essay. There is a lot of information I could incorporate into my essay and I think this would be a good topic for me.

Why are you interested in this topic?

My topic interests me because I am a student and I actually agree with both sides to this debate so this will allow me to stay unbiased with my opinion and will make it easier for me to just present the facts without letting it become emotional. I am interested in this topic also because I am a student who receives homework and it stresses me out sometimes as well, but this article and this topic shows both sides and has allowed

Also, I know a little bit about the other side of the debate and that is why the students get this much homework. Homework allows the student to stay with the class and not fall behind. For example, if a student did not receive any homework, they would begin to forget the lessons and this can cause them to fall behind and forget how to do simple things that they would be able to do if there was …show more content…
I believe that even though students receive a lot of homework, the facts should be put in perspective and this essay will show the perspectives of both the students and the teachers. For example, if multiple people think that homework is not necessary and other people think that it is necessary, my essay can show both sides to this debate and overall settle it.

Who is the intended audience?

The intended audience for my essay is teachers, parents, and of course, students. I believe that these people would enjoy and be invested in my essay the most because it really revolves around their decisions. For example, the amount of homework that students are being given is decided by the teachers, the time that students go to bed and start their homework is decided by the parents, and the topic is about whether or not students should have homework or not and many students should have a say in this debate.

Instructions for the Persuasive Essay Write a persuasive essay of about 1200 words (4-5 double-spaced pages) that develops your own argument about an issue of social concern. Choose an issue that matters to you. The issue may be local, national, or international. Assume that your readers’ understanding of the issue is incomplete; work to further their understanding and convince them to perceive the issue your way. As explained in SCC 3.8, a persuasive essay makes an argument—which is, “a reasoned opinion supported and explained by evidence” (122).…

Assignment 2 (a) Summarise the argument made in each of your two chosen essays (200 words each = 400 words total) In Daedalus and Joyce Writing the Books on Themselves, John Paul Riquelme broaches the different narrative styles deployed by James Joyce in A Portrait of the Artist as A Young Man. This analysis opens up on the “oscillating perspective” of the narrative, which refers to the constant shift between the first person narrative and the third person narrative in the story. This “oscillating perspective” is characterized by the alternating between the character’s outlook and the narrator’s outlook and highlighted through “James Joyce’s subversion of realism conventions”(Riquelme), notably visible through the disrupted chronology of the novel’s narrative (Riquelme). This essay also focuses on the “dislocations in style and story”(Riquelme) of the novel.…

The Sanctuary of School The essay I chose to write was over the short article of “The Sanctuary of School” by Lynda Barry. In this story it talks about the author Lynda Barry’s experience with the school from a young age. She talks about growing up in a home with her mom and her dad having money issues, relatives that kept moving in, her brother and her sleeping on the couch, and the constant fighting going on. She explains how she didn’t feel safe at home so she talks about school being a safe haven for her, and how lucky she was that she had Mrs. LeSane and Mr. Gunderson.…

In addition, there are multiple perspectives in this essay, and the counter arguments show the consideration of both sides. Overall, the essay content expresses a thoughtful response to the essay prompt, and the essay is well-organized and cohesive with a variety of use of transition words. My topic is significant to society because public education is something that has been happening for as long as we can remember, many people go to public school and it is a huge, vital part of their lives. But there is an entire plethora of topics to cover over with the corruption of public education. The main issue isn’t completely the teachers that are hired but the state’s rules and the standardized testing, and the disciplinary issues. Not only that but the largely increasing number of children and teenagers being diagnosed with depression and anxiety and how they're suffering in the environment that they're supposed to learn in, and what the school system is and isn't doing to attempt and ‘help’ these individuals. For my first topic,…
