Kids Who Go On Social Media More Often Tend To Have lower grades

This is a teens schedule. Wake up, shower, eat while on snapchat. Walk to school talking on Instagram. At school pretending to do work on the phone when they're actually on twitter. Go home, eat with the family. Go to bed, and stay on social media until they fall asleep in the middle of a sentence. Teens do this every day and it needs to be stopped because they don't’ spend time with their family, have face to face talks with friends anymore, and they don't get homework done.

The people who go on social media often get or have lower grades than the people that don’t go on social media. If you have social media what kind of grades do you have? When kids go on social media instead of during the homework they don't finish their homework and then the next day they have to turn it in with nothing done. I think that kids should go on social media less. Studies show that "31% of teens say that using social media during homework reduces the quality of their work.Students who used social media had an average GPA of 3.06 while non-users had an average GPA of 3.82.Students who used social media while studying scored 20% lower on tests.College students' grades dropped 0.12 points for every 93 minutes above the average 106 minutes spent on Facebook per day.One study found that in schools which introduced a ban on cell phones, student performance improved 6.41%.

They could be doing their homework or hanging out with family.“A survey of internet users aged 16-64 found that the average daily time spent on social media is 1.72 hours, which accounts for 28% of total time spent online.” This means instead of going on for like 30 minutes they go on for

It has been found that 62% of students take part in multitasking with social media when in class, studying, and/or doing homework. This multitasking seems to create distractions which has shown to be a negative effect on academic performance (Jacobsen and Forste 2011). “Media multitasking is broadly operationalized as the practice of concurrently interacting with multiple forms of media.” This takes place when students are texting, browsing the Web, watching a video online, all while speaking with friends in a simultaneous manner. Not only does this correlate with worsened academic performances, but it also is linked with higher rates of attention problems, anxiety, depression, aggression, behavior problems, and high-risk behaviors.…

I think that Social Media is a distraction because, students are heavily involved in social media; causing a lot of attention problems. Also the brightness of the phone while the sound of a chime goes off from a text or notification can be a problem while you sleep. Students can lose a lot of sleep due to sleeping with the phone next to them, because once the phone lights up or bings, they will want to get up and check it. Students that are heavily involved in social media have "continuous partial attention", which means their ability to pay attention to one person or thing is nearly impossible.…

From personal experience, I do notice that right before bed I spend an extra 1 to 2 more hours awake on social media. I get less sleep more than ever, and I know it is because of the distraction of my phone each night. I know that teens all over spend hours at a time on their smartphones scrolling through news feeds, on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and more. In my case this process is repeated at least five times in a day. This has negative effects on teens because it can lead to other problems, and effect a teens ability to perform adequately in school.…
